Partruhari Mahtab sworn in as Interim Speaker of 18th Lok Sabha
  • The 18th Lok Sabha elections were held in seven phases. The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance retained power by winning 293 of the total 543 seats. The 'India' alliance of opposition parties including the Congress won 234 seats. 
  • BJP emerged as the single largest party by winning 240 seats. However, failing to get a simple majority (272), the BJP formed the government at the center with the support of alliance parties including Telugu Desam (16) and United Janata Dal (12).
  • Narendra Modi was sworn in for the third consecutive term as Prime Minister on June 9. In this context, the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha will be held from today till July 3. Similarly, the 264th session of Rajya Sabha will be held from June 27 to July 3. The President will address a joint meeting of both houses on June 27.
  • The new MPs will be sworn in on the first two days of the Lok Sabha session. MPs will be sworn in in the presence of Acting Lok Sabha Speaker Partruhari Mahatap. Lok Sabha Speaker election will be held on June 26.
  • In this situation, BJP Member of Parliament 'Partruhari Mahtab' took oath as the interim speaker. President Draupadi Murmu administered the oath to him.
The Ministry of Education has launched a nationwide drive for tobacco-free educational institutions
  • Tobacco use is one of the leading causes of preventable deaths and diseases in India. It accounts for about 1.35 million deaths every year in the country. India is the second largest producer and consumer of tobacco. 
  • According to the Global Youth Tobacco Survey 2019, 8.5 percent of schoolchildren between the ages of 13 and 15 across the country use tobacco in various forms. The easy availability of tobacco products in various forms around our school buildings and campuses is believed to be one of the major factors in this situation.
  • As a part of the National Tobacco Control Programme, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has issued guidelines for tobacco-free educational institutions to protect minors and youth from tobacco use.
  • The Ministry of Education's Department of School Education and Literacy has developed a "Tobacco-Free Educational Institution Operational Manual" for schools and launched it on May 31, 2024, World No Tobacco Day. The aim is to make educational institutions #Tobacco Free Areas across the country in compliance with tobacco free guidelines.
Union Health Minister Mr JP Natta launched the National End Diarrhea Movement 2024
  • Union Health Minister Mr Jagat Prakash Natta launched the National Campaign to Stop Diarrhea among Children in New Delhi today. Union Ministers of State for Health, Mrs. Matupriya Patel and Mr. Jadhav Prathaprao Kanbhadrao also participated in the event. 
  • They also released slogans, posters and radio advertisements for the campaign. They also provided ORS solution and zinc tablets to the children during diarrhoea. 
  • The aim of this campaign is to completely prevent the deaths of children due to diarrhoea. According to this, ORS solution will be given to children below 5 years of age.
