India Wholesale Price Index Numbers Release for May 2024
- The annual inflation rate for May 2024 (up from May, 2023) based on All India Total Price Index is 2.61% (provisional). In May 2024, rising prices of food items, electricity, crude petroleum, natural gas, mineral oils and other commodities accounted for the positive rate of inflation.
- The annual inflation rate for May 2024 was 0.20% as compared to April 2024 on a month-on-month basis.
- Final Index for March 2024 (Base Year: 2011-12=100): Final Total Price Index and 'All Commodity' Inflation Rate for March 2024 (Base Year: 2011-12=100) were 151.4% and 0.26% respectively.
- Ajit Doval has been appointed as National Security Adviser and PK Mishra as Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister. It has been informed that both of them will continue in the post till the tenure of the Prime Minister or until further orders. It also said that Ajit Doval and PK Mishra will be given the status of Cabinet Ministers.
- The Committee on Cabinet Appointments also confirmed that Amit Khare and Tarun Kapoor will be re-appointed as advisers to the Prime Minister. It has been announced that their term of office will be up to 2 years from June 10. Both of them have been appointed as Central Government Secretaries.
- G7 is a confederation of the 7 major capitalist countries of the developed world, the United States, Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, and Canada. The 50th summit of its member states began on Thursday (13.06.2024) in Bassano, Apulia province, Italy.
- Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is presiding over this conference. Apart from this, US President Joe Biden, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, German Prime Minister Olaf Schaals, French President Emmanuel Macron, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau are also participating in the conference.
- European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Charles Michel are participating in the conference on behalf of the European Union, which is a 'numberless' member of the G7 organization.
- Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Turkish President Erdoğan and the heads of 11 countries and Catholic Archbishop Pope Francis will be the special invitees of the conference.
- UN Heads of international organizations including Secretary General Antonio Guterres, World Bank President Ajay Banka, International Finance Minister Kristalina Georgieva are also attending the conference as guests.
- It is expected that various issues including Gaza war, Ukraine war will be given importance in this conference which will be held till the 15th.
- On Thursday, the first day of the G7 summit, member states agreed to provide $5,000 crore (about Rs 4.18 lakh crore) in loans to Ukraine with profits from frozen Russian assets.
