Chief Minister M. K. Stalin released the book "Ancient Jain Legacy of Tamil Nadu" written by Ruchi Pritam
  • Additional Chief Secretary Kumar Jayant released the book "Ancient Jain Legacy of Tamil Nadu" written by his wife Ruchi Pritam at the camp office of Chief Minister M. K. Stalin today. The book highlights the impact of Jainism on the culture and art of the state and the integral role of Jainism in the identity of Tamil Nadu.
  • Highlighting the importance of Jainism beyond religion, with meticulous detail on the influence of Jainism on the art, architecture and culture of Tamil Nadu. Furthermore, the book explores the deep connections between Jainism and the rich heritage of Tamil Nadu and provides evidence of the enduring influence of Jainism.
Bema Kandu took office as the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh for the 3rd time
  • Assembly elections were held in Arunachal Pradesh along with the Lok Sabha elections. The election results were announced on the 2nd. Out of the total 60 assembly constituencies in this state, 10 BJP candidates, including Bema Kandu, ran unopposed. BJP contested in remaining 50 constituencies.
  • Congress, National People's Party (NPP) and other parties did not field even where majority was required. BJP won 36 of the 50 constituencies contested. The strength of the BJP won 46 seats, losing all 10 seats that were already uncontested.
  • National People's Party (NPP) won 5 seats, Nationalist Congress 3 seats, Arunachal Pradesh 2 seats and Independents 3 seats. Congress got only one seat. In this situation, Bema Kandu took oath as the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh today.
  • He has become the Chief Minister for the 3rd time in a row. Governor KT Barnaik administered the oath of office to him. 11 ministers took oath with him. Union Ministers Amit Shah, JP Natta and BJP members participated in the swearing-in ceremony.
Consumer inflation for May 2024 eases to 4.75 percent
  • Consumer inflation for May 2024 has eased to 4.75 percent as against 4.83 percent in April 2024. That is the rural and urban inflation rate of 5.28% and 4.15% respectively. Consumer food price inflation has come down to 8.69 percent from 8.70 percent in April 2024.
  • Notably, the all-India inflation on a general consumer basis for May 2024 is the lowest since May 2023, according to a report by the Ministry of Statistics and Planning. This is less than 6 percent from September 2023.
  • 'Spices' has seen a significant decline in annual inflation compared to the previous month, April 2024. In addition, inflation rates for clothing, footwear, housing, etc. have also decreased since last month.
  • In the first month of the current financial year, the industrial production index grew by 5 percent, according to the Ministry of Statistics and Plan Implementation. This is slightly higher than the 4.6 percent growth rate recorded in April 2023. 
  • Meanwhile, the mining sector showed a growth of 6.7 percent in April 2024 compared to April 2023. On the other hand, the manufacturing sector had a modest growth rate of 3.9 percent during the same period. Finally, the power sector recorded a growth rate of 10.2 percent in April 2024 compared to the same month of the previous year.
Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi has been appointed as the new Chief of Army Staff of India
  • General Manoj Pandey is currently the Chief of Army Staff of the country. Manoj Pandey is serving as the Army Chief from April 2022. As his tenure is coming to an end, it is reported that a new commander will be announced soon for the army. However, due to the Lok Sabha elections, the announcement was not forthcoming.
  • In this case, the central government has officially announced that Lt. Gen. Upendra Dwivedi will be appointed as the next army chief of the country. Lieutenant General Dwivedi will take over as the Army Chief on the 30th.
  • Lt Gen Dwivedi, who is now the Deputy Chief of Army Staff, is set to take charge as the country's 30th Chief of Army Staff. It is noteworthy that he has also taken care of many responsibilities including the Director General of Infantry.
