Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) MoU with ISRO's INSPACE
  • India has a rocket launch pad at Sriharikota in the state of Andhra Pradesh. It is India's only rocket launch pad. In this case, following this, the central government announced that the 2nd rocket launch pad will be set up at Kulasekaranpatnam in Thoothukudi district in Tamil Nadu.
  • For this purpose, 2,376 acres of semi-circular land has been acquired in Kulasekaranpattinam area and the work is in progress at a cost of Rs.950 crore. Subsequently, the Tamil Nadu government announced that a space park would be set up at Kulasekaranpatnam.
  • In this regard, the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) has signed an MoU with ISRO's INSPACE to set up. A Space Factory and Propulsion Park will be located near the Space Research Center in Kulasekaranpatnam on an area of 1,500 acres. Ditco informed that the land for setting up the space park is being acquired.
  • The factory and propulsion park is expected to manufacture rocket components, electronics, engineering structures and other rocket-related structures.
Asian Development Bank approves USD 148.5 million loan to improve power supply in Sikkim
  • To modernize the quality and resilience of power supply in Sikkim, the Asian Development Bank has approved a loan of USD 148.5 million.
  • This project fully supports Sikkim's Electrification for All initiative. While ensuring 24-hour uninterrupted supply of stable electricity to households, industries, businesses and the general public, the Asian Development Bank said in its report.
  • The project will modernize about 770 kilometers of Sikkim's power distribution system. Additionally, up to 580 kilometers of old and low-capacity hollow conductors will be replaced with entirely new ones to increase power distribution network capacity, it said.
  • While upgrading 26 existing power substations, it will include installation of supervisory control and data acquisition system, installation of 15,000 public street lights in remote areas and conduct of electricity safety and security awareness programs in 28 villages.
  • It will also install solar energy systems and energy-efficient electrical equipment at 24 primary health sub-centres to improve the capacity of rural health facilities and treat inpatients, especially during the winter months.
  • The project is said to involve the installation of renewable energy systems designed to improve the livelihoods of at least 1,100 women, including self-help groups, producers' groups and individual businesses, and improve their vocational skills.
12th Joint Working Group meeting between India and Mongolia
  • The 12th Joint Working Group Meeting between India-Mongolia Defense Ministries began on 16 May 2024. The meeting was jointly chaired by Mr. Amitabh Prasad, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Defense and Brigadier General Kankuyak Tavaktorj, Secretary, Mongolian Ministry of Defense. Indian Ambassador to Mongolia Atul Malhari Kotsurve attended the meeting.
  • They reviewed the progress of various bilateral security cooperation initiatives and discussed ways to further enhance cooperation. The two sides also exchanged views on the current geopolitical situation.
