India France Joint Military Training Force 2024
- The 7th edition of the India-France Joint Military Exercise began today at the fully upgraded and modernized Foreign Training Base at Umroi, Shakti Meghalaya. The exercise is scheduled to be held from May 13 to 26, 2024.
- French Ambassador to India Thierry Mathew and General Officer Commanding 51 Sub Area Major General Prasanna Sudhakar Joshi were present at the inaugural ceremony of this joint exercise.
- Shakti Training is a biennial training event held alternately in India and France. The last edition was held in France in November 2021.
- The 90-strong Indian contingent is primarily represented by one battalion of the Rajput Regiment and soldiers from other armed forces and services. Observers from Indian Navy and Indian Air Force will also be part of the exercise. The 90-strong French regiment is mainly represented by soldiers from the 13th Foreign Legion Brigade.
- Tactical exercises to be practiced during this exercise include capturing a defined area, establishing a joint command post, establishing an intelligence and surveillance center, securing a helipad landing site, using drones and counter-drone systems.
- An international athletics competition was held in Los Angeles, USA. India's Deek Shah, 25, competes in the women's 1500m final. Third favorite U.P.'s Deek Shah won the bronze after crossing the mark in 4 minutes, 4.78 seconds.
- With this, he registered his best performance and set a new national record. Earlier, Harmilon Baines (4 min, 05.39 sec) had set the national record at the 2021 National Open Athletics Championship in Warangal (Telangana).
- Pakistan pacer Shakeen Shah Afridi, Namibia's Gerhard Erasmus and UAE's Mohammed Wasim have been named in the ICC Player of the Month for April. In this context, UAE's Mohammad Wasim won the ICC Player of the Year award for the first time.
