Number of telecom subscribers rises to 119.7 crore in February - TRAI
  • Urban telephone subscription increased to 66.37 crore and rural subscription to 53.13 crore. The total number of broadband subscribers increased from 91.10 crore at the end of January to 91.67 crore at the end of February, according to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India's monthly subscriber report.
  • The top five service providers, accounting for 98.35 percent of total broadband subscribers, are Reliance Jio Infocomm (52.2 percent), Bharti Airtel (29.41 percent), Vodafone Idea (13.80 percent), BSNL (2.69 percent) and Adria Convergence (0.24 percent).
  • Meanwhile, all circles in both the wireline and wireless segments have registered growth in subscriber numbers during the month of February. The number of wireline subscribers increased to 3.31 crore at the end of February with a growth rate of 1.73 percent.
  • Overall wireline tele-density in India to increase from 2.33 percent at the end of January 2024 to 2.37 percent at the end of February 2024. Urban and rural wireline tele-density is 6.10 percent and 0.31 percent respectively during the same period.
  • Three PSUs BSNL, MTNL and ABSFL hold 28.18 percent of the wireline market segment as of February 2024, according to TRAI. Meanwhile, the total number of wireless subscribers increased to 116.46 crore, registering a monthly growth rate of 0.34.
  • Wireless subscription in rural areas increased from 52.67 crore to 52.85 crore. It registered a monthly growth of 0.34 percent, similar to urban areas. As of February 2024, private service wireless subscribers accounted for 92.05 percent of the market share. Whereas BSNL and MTNL had only 7.95 percent market share.

  • The ICC Men's Player of the Year for March 2024 has been announced. Kamindu Mendis bagged the Player of the Month award with Ireland pacer Mark Adair, New Zealand pacer Matt Henry and Kamindu Mendis nominated to win the Player of the Month award for March.
  • Kamindu Mendis became the third Sri Lankan player to win the men's award after Prabhat Jayasuriya and Vanindu Hasaranga.
