India's Economic Growth Rate to 6.6 Percent in FY2025 - World Bank
  • The World Bank, which has released its forecasts for India's economy, has said that the country's GDP growth will be at bullet speed. According to the World Bank, India's economy will grow by 7.5 percent by 2024. Earlier, the World Bank had underestimated the GDP growth of 1.2 per cent for the period, but now it has revised the growth estimate for the Indian economy to 7.5 per cent.
  • The report indicates that South Asia will be the fastest growing region in the world for the next two years with a growth rate of 6.1 percent by 2025. 
  • In its latest report on South Asia Economic Growth released by the World Bank on Tuesday, the growth rate of South Asia is expected to be 6.0 percent in 2024, mainly due to the strong growth in India and economic growth in Pakistan and Sri Lanka. However, according to the World Bank, India's economic growth rate will be 6.6 percent in the fiscal year 2025.
  • Bangladesh's economy is expected to grow by 5.7 percent in 2024-25, while Pakistan's economy is expected to grow by 2.3 percent and Sri Lanka's GDP growth by 2.5 percent.
Appointment of Shiny Wilson as member of Asian Games Commission
  • Former runner and Zonal General Manager of the Food Association of India Shiny Wilson has been appointed as a member of the Asian Games Commission. The appointment is for a four-year term from 2024 to 2028.
  • The meeting of the Asian Games Commission for the appointment was held via the internet under the chairmanship of the commission president and Olympic bronze medalist Mohammad Sulaiman.
Sutlej Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN) MoU with Patna IIT
  • The Sutlej Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN) has signed an MoU with the Indian Institute of Technology, Patna, to use advanced geological models in tunneling projects. This reduces time and cost significantly.
  • SJVN President and Managing Director Ms. Geeta Kapur said that the main objective of this MoU is to develop a state-of-the-art mechanism for integrating various geotechnical data. These include geological surveys, borehole data, geophysical measurements, monitoring data from SJVN projects.
