1000 year old Chola inscriptions found near Tanjore
- 1000 year old Chola inscriptions were found near Tanjore. Ramabharathi, Vigneswaran and Karthikeyan of Thanjavur district informed that writings were found on a stone in Dharmaraj field of Rajagiri, Papanasam circle, Thanjavur district.
- Thanjavur Saraswathi Mahal Library Tamil Pandit and Historian Manimaran and Ponthyakulam Government Primary School Principal Thillai Govindarajan conducted a field survey.
- At that time, four pieces of inscriptions were found along the canal in the Araiyapuram Thattangal Basin, located between Kudamuruti River to the south of Papanasam and Arasalar to the north. Historians say that these inscriptions are found with Chola era writings of a thousand years ago.
- The four fragmentary inscriptions appear to be unrelated and incomplete. A few meters away from where the inscription is found, a Chola temple must have been completely destroyed.
- It is believed that this piece of inscriptions may have migrated from there. After reading the lines of this inscription, it is possible to understand that Rasendra Cholan had given land to a temple called Vinnakaram.
- They said that the names of places like Mangalam, Piravigalancheri, Kalakaracheri, Nakan Nittavinodhakan, Kandan, Mummudich Chola Cholavarayan, the names of canals such as Sandalappurthumvati, Adithavati, Kandan Vaikkal and words about land size like land boundary, ma, piti, and dhirayanam can be found in the words.
