Prime Minister presented the first National Creator Award
  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today presented the first National Creative Award at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. He conversed with the conquerors for some time 
  • The National Creators Award is an initiative to recognize excellence and impact in fields including storytelling, social change advocacy, environmental sustainability, education and gaming. The award is seen as a launching pad to use creativity to effect positive change.
Cabinet Committee on Defense (CCS) approves the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme
  • The Cabinet Committee on Defense (CCS) has approved the long-proposed Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft Design (AMCA) program to indigenously design and develop fifth-generation stealth fighters for the future needs of the Indian Air Force.
  • The initial development cost of the project is estimated at around Rs 15,000 crore. Under the plan, five prototypes of the fighter will be jointly developed by the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) with private support.
  • Only a select few countries in the world, such as the US, Russia and China, have fifth-generation stealth fighters. The Cabinet Committee on Defense (CCS) has also approved the purchase of 34 Dhruv helicopters, indigenously designed multirole, new-generation helicopters, for the Indian Army and the Indian Coast Guard.
  • Public sector company Hindustan Aeronautics Limited will manufacture the indigenously developed helicopters, nine of which will be delivered to the Indian Coast Guard. 25 helicopters will be provided to the Indian Army. Both projects are expected to be worth Rs 8,000 crore and will spur indigenization.
India wins 'Measles and Rubella Champion' award for outstanding efforts in measles and rubella prevention
  • In recognition of the country's tireless efforts to combat measles and rubella, India was conferred with the prestigious Measles and Rubella Champion Award on 6 March 2024 at the American Red Cross Headquarters in Washington DC, USA. 
  • Sripriya Ranganathan, Vice-Chancellor of the Embassy of India in Washington DC received the award on behalf of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
  • The Measles and Rubella Partnership includes a multi-agency planning group including the American Red Cross, UNICEF, and the World Health Organization. All of these are dedicated to reducing global measles deaths and preventing rubella.
  • Since 2017, as part of India's Global Immunization Programme, the central government has been working towards the complete elimination of measles and rubella from the country.
Sudha Murthy appointed as member of Rajya Sabha
  • Sudha Murthy, wife of Infosys founder Narayana Murthy, has been appointed as a member of the Rajya Sabha. Sudha Murthy, wife of Infosys founder Narayana Murthy, is a multifaceted academic, author and philanthropist. 
  • In 2006, Sudha Murthy was honored with the Padma Shri by the Government of India. And in 2023, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan, India's third highest award. His speeches on parenting, financial planning and saving have been inspirational to many.
  • A former chairman of the Infosys Foundation, he is also a member of the Bill Gates Foundation's public health initiatives. Sudha Murthy founded the Classical Library at Harvard University.
