OBC reservation in local bodies of Jammu and Kashmir - Bill passed in Lok Sabha
  • Amid the budget session of the Parliament, the 'Jammu and Kashmir Local Government Amendment Bill - 2024' was introduced in the Lok Sabha on Monday.
  • Jugal Kishore Chama, BJP member from Jammu and Kashmir, Sinda Anuradha of YSR Congress welcomed the bill.
  • The present Bill provides for provision of reservation for Other Backward Classes in the local bodies of Jammu and Kashmir and to bring constitutional consistency in the Local Government Acts of Jammu and Kashmir.
  • The bill will ensure justice to other backward sections of Jammu and Kashmir who were neglected in the past. After discussion, the bill was passed.
  • Last August 2019, the special status of Jammu and Kashmir was revoked and the state was bifurcated into two Union Territories (Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh). Jammu and Kashmir, a Union Territory with a Legislative Assembly, is currently under President's rule.
Sale of 'Bharat Rice' starts at Rs.29 per kg
  • In the name of 'Bharat Ata' Rs. 27.50 per kg of wheat flour and `Bharat dal' at Rs. 60 per kg of senna (white chickpea) in the retail market while the central government has also started selling rice at subsidized prices.
  • 'Bharat Rice' is available in the retail market in 5 kg and 10 kg bags. Union Minister of Food and Consumer Affairs Piyush Goyal launched the scheme in Delhi.
  • 100 Mobile Outlets: As part of the event, Piyush Goyal flagged off 100 mobile outlets selling through vans. 'Bharat Rice' is being marketed through 2 Co-operative Societies namely National Agricultural Co-operative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) and National Consumer Co-operative Federation of India (NCCF) and Central Government Sales Centers (Kendriya Band). Also sold through e-commerce websites.
Andhra, Odisha State SC, ST. Bills to amend the list: Passage in the Rajya Sabha
  • Parliamentary Affairs decided to adjourn the proceedings of the Rajya Sabha under Rule No. 17 to allow for tabling of these bills after question hour in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha to amend Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) Schedules. Department Minister Prakalat Joshi brought.
