10 percent reservation for Maratha community - passed in assembly

  • The bill to provide 10 percent reservation in education and employment to the Maratha community in Maharashtra was unanimously passed in the state assembly. He went on an indefinite hunger strike demanding 10 percent reservation in education and government jobs for the Maratha community in Maharashtra.
  • The government led by Eknath Shinde accepted this and issued a notification in this regard. The state cabinet approved the reservation bill. In this situation, a special session of the assembly was held today to pass this bill. 
  • Chief Minister Eknath Shinde introduced a bill providing 10 percent reservation for the Maratha community in both houses of the Assembly. The opposition also supported the bill. After this the bill was passed unanimously.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched various development projects worth Rs 32,000 crore in Jammu and Kashmir

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who participated in the event at Maulana Azad Maidan in Jammu, announced Rs. He inaugurated, dedicated and laid foundation stones for various development projects worth more than 32,000 crores. 
  • Also, the Prime Minister issued appointment orders to around 1,500 newly selected people in Jammu and Kashmir. The Prime Minister also interacted with the beneficiaries of various government schemes as part of the 'Developed India Developed Jammu' programme.
  • In a significant move to improve education and skill infrastructure across the country, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone, dedicated and inaugurated various projects worth around Rs.13,375 crore. 
  • Campuses of major institutes at IIT Pillai, IIT Tirupati, IIT Jammu, IITDM Kurnool, Indian Institute of Skills (IIS) Kanpur, two permanent campuses of Central Sanskrit University - Devprayak (Uttarakhand) and Agartala (Tripura) were inaugurated and dedicated to the country.
  • The Prime Minister inaugurated three IIM campuses namely IIM Jammu and IIM Buddha Gaya and IIM Visakhapatnam. Apart from this, he inaugurated 20 new buildings of Kendra Vidyalaya and 13 new Navodaya Vidyalaya buildings across the country. 
  • Prime Minister Modi also laid foundation stones for 5 Kendra Vidyalaya Campuses, one Navodaya Vidyalaya Campus and 5 Perspective Rooms for Navodaya Vidyalayas across the country.
  • The Prime Minister inaugurated the All India Institute of Medical Sciences at Vijaypur (Samba) in Jammu as a measure to provide comprehensive, quality and comprehensive medical services to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
  • The Prime Minister dedicated to the nation various rail projects in Jammu and Kashmir, including the new rail line between Panihal - Gari - Chambar - Sangalthan (48 km) and the newly electrified Baramulla - Sirungar - Panihal - Sangalthan section (185.66 km). 
  • The Prime Minister flagged off the first electric train in the Kashmir Valley. The Prime Minister also flagged off the train service between Sangaldan Railway Station and Baramulla Railway Station.
  • Prime Minister Modi laid foundation stone for major road projects including two sets (44.22 km) of Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway connecting Jammu and Katra.
  • Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone for a project to build a public utility petroleum storage facility in Jammu. Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stones of 62 road projects, 42 bridges, a project to improve traffic shelters - 2816 dwellings at nine locations in Pulwama districts.
India to finance 1 million dollars for poverty alleviation programme
  • India has allocated 1 million dollars to the IPSA Fund, which was formed in 2004 by India, Brazil and South Africa to jointly promote poverty alleviation. India, Brazil and South Africa (IPSA) jointly formed by the three countries contribute $1 million annually. 
  • Through this funding, various activities including clean drinking water, food security, control of the spread of AIDS are being carried out in 37 countries including Africa. 
  • In that regard, it is noteworthy that 18 million dollars have been financed so far as India's contribution to the poverty alleviation program.
Aam Aadmi Party wins Chandigarh Mayoral Election - Supreme Court Verdict
  • Chandigarh mayoral election was held last month. Kuldeep Kumar contested on behalf of Aam Aadmi Party by forming an alliance between Aam Aadmi Party and Congress.
  • Manoj Sonkar contested on behalf of BJP. In this, BJP candidate Manoj Sonkar won by securing 16 votes and 20 votes cast in favor of Aam Aadmi Party candidate Kuldeep Kumar were declared invalid by 8 votes, Election Officer Anil Masih declared. A video of Election Officer Anil Masih correcting ballot papers has gone viral.
  • Following this, the Aam Aadmi Party filed a case in the Supreme Court regarding the election results. The case was heard before a bench headed by Chief Justice Chandrachud of the Supreme Court. From the very beginning, the judges were giving opinions against the Election Officer.
  • In the final phase of the investigation today, they confirmed that it was Election Officer Anil Masih who corrected the votes recorded for the Aam Aadmi Party candidate in the video evidence recording. Later, the judges ordered that the election officer was guilty in this election case and action should be taken against him.
  • Further, the Supreme Court bench ordered that there is no need to cancel the election and Aam Aadmi Party candidate Kuldeep Kumar was the winner.
JP Natta, L. Murugan elected as Rajya Sabha members
  • Former Congress President Sonia Gandhi from Rajasthan, BJP National President J.P. Natta from Gujarat and Union Minister L. Murugan from Madhya Pradesh have filed their nomination papers to compete in the Rajya Sabha polls.
  • BJP National President JP Natta has filed his nomination papers to contest the Rajya Sabha polls in Gujarat.
  • Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L. Murugan has filed his nomination papers in Madhya Pradesh in Rajya Sabha. Union Minister L. Murugan contested for the Rajya Sabha for the second time.
  • It was announced today that Congress Parliamentary Committee President Sonia Gandhi was elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from the state of Rajasthan. In this situation, Union Minister of State L. Murugan has been elected today and JP as Rajya Sabha member from Gujarat. Natta has been selected today.
