Urdu lyricist and poet Gulzar and Sanskrit scholar Jagadguru Ramabhadracharya
will be awarded the Jnanpith Award for the year 2023, the Selection Committee
has announced. Both are well known in their respective fields.
Urdu
poet Gulzar and Sanskrit literature writer Jagadguru Ramabhadracharya have been
selected for the Jnanpith Award 2023, the selection committee said. Gulzar is
recognized as one of the best Urdu poets of the present time, who has been
praised for his work in Hindi cinema.
He has previously received the Sahitya
Akademi Award for Urdu in 2002, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2013 and the
Padma Bhushan in 2004. Additionally, he has received five National Film Awards
for various works in Hindi cinema.
Ramabhadracharya of Chitraguda, the founder
and head of Tulsi Peedham, was a prominent Hindu spiritual leader, educator and
author of more than 100 books. Although blind by birth, Jagadguru
Ramabhadracharya was deeply versed in Sanskrit language and Vedas-Puranas.
It
has been decided to confer the prestigious award for the year 2023 on Jagadguru
Ramabhadracharya of Sanskrit literature and renowned Urdu writer Sri Gulsar,
the Jnanpith Committee said in a statement. Notably, in 2022, Goan writer
Damodar Mousso received this prestigious award.
