United Cup Tennis 2024 - Germany Champion
  • In the 2nd season final of this series in which a total of 18 countries participated, Poland - Germany teams clashed. In women's singles, World No. 1 Ika Swiadek easily defeated Germany's Angelique Kerber in straight sets 6-3, 6-0 to give Poland her first win.
  • In the men's singles, Germany's Alexander Zwerau (ranked 2nd) defeated Poland's Hubert Harkocz (ranked 9th) 6-7 (3-7), 7-6 (8-6), 6-4 in a 1-1 draw. This was followed by a mixed doubles match between Poland's Ika Swiadek/Hubert Hurkocs and Germany's Laura Siegemund-Alexander Zverau. After Germany fought to win the match 6-4, 5-7, 10-4 in a very lively match, Germany beat Poland 2-1 and kissed the United Cup.
REC organized conference on Finance for Roads and Highways Sector
  • The Rural Electrification Commission (REC), a Maharatna PSU under the Union Ministry of Power, has organized a conference to bring all key stakeholders under one roof to discuss funding for roads and highways. 
  • The conference held in New Delhi yesterday (Jan-8) was attended by government and industry representatives including Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, National Highways Authority of India, Roads Congress of India, National Federation of Highways Builders, State Road Development Organisations, Industrial Policy Makers, Road and Construction Organizations. Key stakeholders were present.
  • During the conference, four MoUs worth Rs 16,000 crore were signed with Dilip Buildcon Ltd, GMR Power & Urban Infra, CDS Infra Projects Ltd and DP Jain & Co Infrastructure Pvt Ltd.
Meeting of Committee on Prevention and Regulation of False Advertisements in Competitive Coaching Sector
  • The first meeting of the committee set up to prepare guidelines related to prevention of false advertisements in competitive examination training sector was held by the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) yesterday (08.01.2024) in New Delhi. The meeting discussed the draft guidelines.
  • Chairman of this Committee and Secretary, Department of Consumer Welfare, Mr. Rohit Kumar Singh and other members, representatives of Department of Employment and Training, Department of Education, National Law University, Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration also attended the meeting.
  • These draft guidelines are designed to be applicable to all live and online training institutes, whether online or live.
  • These guidelines suggest the dos and don'ts to consider before publishing advertisements.
  • The training institute should mention the necessary information along with the photograph of the selected person.

  • Duration of training programme
  • Information about paid or free training
  • Also, as per the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, fines for false advertisements will be imposed by the coaching department. It has also been clarified that complaints regarding violations will continue to be governed under the existing provisions of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.
  • The meeting of the committee was informed that there is an urgent need to publish the guidelines and the draft aspects discussed in the meeting should be published soon.
  • CCPA has already taken action against false advertising by coaching institutes. CCPA has issued notices to 31 coaching institutes for false advertisement. 9 of them have been fined.
