All India Director Generals of Police (DGPs) / Heads of Police (IGs) Conference
  • Prime Minister Modi will attend the 2023 All India Director Generals of Police (DGPs) / Chief Inspectors of Police (IGs) conference at the Rajasthan International Center in Jaipur.
  • The three-day conference from January 5 to 7 will discuss various policing and homeland security issues including cybercrime, technology in policing, challenges in counter-terrorism, left-wing extremism and prison reforms. Another important aspect of the conference will be a detailed discussion on the action plan for the implementation of the new criminal laws.
  • The conference will also discuss future themes in policing and security, such as the challenges posed by new technologies such as artificial intelligence, deepfaking, and methods to address them. The conference provides an opportunity to identify affirmative action areas and monitor their progress. It will be presented to the Prime Minister every year.
  • The conference was a culmination of extensive discussions involving police and intelligence officials at the district, state and national levels on identified themes. Best practices from States and Union Territories will be presented at the conference under each theme. This will enable states to learn from each other and share best practices.
  • Since 2014, Prime Minister Modi has been showing great interest in the Conference of Director Generals of Police. He participates in all the important sessions of the conference. PM Modi not only patiently listens to all inputs, but also encourages free discussions to come up with new ideas. 
  • This year's conference is also scheduled for breakfast, lunch and dinner themed discussions. It will provide an opportunity for senior police officers to share their views and recommendations with the Prime Minister on key police and internal security issues affecting the country.
  • The Prime Minister has also been promoting the organization of annual DGPs conferences across the country since 2014. This conference was held in Guwahati in 2014. Last year 2023 was held at National Agricultural Science Campus, Pusa, Delhi. This year the conference is being held in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
  • Union Home Minister, National Security Adviser, Minister of State for Home Affairs, Cabinet Secretary, senior officers of Central Government, DGP of States/Union Territories and Heads of Central Armed Police Forces and Central Police Organizations are participating in this conference.

  • India's economic growth will be 6.2 percent in 2024. This was 6.3 percent in 2023. The Indian economy will grow this year due to growth in domestic demand, manufacturing and service sectors. 
  • India will be the fastest growing economy in 2024. India received strong investment in 2023, driven by government infrastructure projects and foreign investment. Investment in developing countries was better than in developed countries. Investment in South Asia, particularly India, was strong in 2023. This is stated in the economic report of the UN.

  • Union Minister of Cooperatives Amit Shah launched the website for the purchase of pulses. Farmers can sell pulses to National Agricultural Cooperative Market Federation of India, National Cooperative Consumers Federation of India using this website. This will provide minimum support price or market price to the farmers.
Union Cabinet approves conversion of Ayodhya airport into an international airport
  • The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi approved the proposal to convert Ayodhya Airport into an International Airport and declare it as Maharishi Valmiki International Airport, Ayodhya.
  • Ayodhya Airport is being upgraded to international status to facilitate the arrival of foreign tourists and devotees, primarily in recognition of Ayodhya's economic prosperity and its importance as an international spiritual destination.
  • The airport is named Maharishi Valmiki International Airport, Ayodhya to pay tribute to Maharishi Valmiki, author of the epic Ramayana, and to give cultural recognition to the airport's identity.
Union Cabinet approves Memorandum of Understanding between India and Guyana on Cooperation in Hydrocarbon Sector
  • In a Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the MoU between the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas of the Union Government and the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Republic of Guyana was approved for mutual cooperation in the hydrocarbon sector.
  • Through this MoU, the full spectrum of the hydrocarbon sector including sourcing of crude oil from Guyana, participation of Indian companies in Guyana's exploration and production sector, crude oil refining, capacity building, strengthening bilateral trade, cooperation in the natural gas sector, cooperation in developing a regulatory policy framework for the oil and gas sector in Guyana. Includes features. The agreement also includes cooperation in the field of clean energy including biofuels and renewable energy including solar energy.
Union Cabinet approves US-India Memorandum of Understanding on International Development India to help Indian Railways achieve zero carbon emissions
  • The Union Cabinet meeting chaired by the Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi today was informed about the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on International Development between India and the United States on June 14, 2023 to help Indian Railways achieve carbon neutrality by 2030.
  • This MoU provides a platform for Indian Railways to share knowledge and latest developments in the railway sector. This MoU facilitates other interactions, seminars/workshops for training, energy efficiency and knowledge sharing focusing on specific technical areas such as utility modernization, advanced energy solutions and systems, regional energy and market integration, private sector participation and engagement, renewable energy.
Union Cabinet approves "Prithvi Vigyan (Prithvi)" scheme of Ministry of Earth Sciences
  • The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the comprehensive scheme "Prithvi Vigyan" of the Ministry of Earth Sciences for implementation at an estimated cost of Rs 4,797 crore during FY 2021-26. 
  • The program includes "Methods for Atmospheric and Climate Research Observing Systems and Services", "Ocean Services, Sampling Process, Resources and Technology". Five sub-projects include "Polar Science and Cryosphere Research", "Seismology and Geoscience", "Research, Education, Training and Public Relations".
Union Cabinet approves Memorandum of Understanding signed between Indian Space Research Organisation, Mauritius Research and Innovation Council for joint development of small satellite
  • The Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi was informed about the MoU signed between Indian Space Research Organization and Mauritius Research and Innovation Council under the Ministry of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation of the Republic of Mauritius on November 01, 2023 in Port Louis, Mauritius. The agreement relates to cooperation in the joint development of a small satellite.
MoU between Indian Railways and CII to promote and facilitate green initiatives
  • Indian Railways has signed an MoU with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) to reduce energy and water consumption. Indian Railways and CII have renewed their MoU for the third time in a row.
  • The MoU was signed and exchanged on January 4, 2024 by Mr. Shailendra Singh, Chief Executive Officer, Railway Board, and Ms. Seema Arora, Deputy Director General, CII. Railway Board Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Mrs. Jaya Verma Sinha, Board members and other senior officials were present.
  • Indian Railways is a major contributor to the transport sector in India and shares the responsibility of environmental protection. Indian Railways has set a target of "net zero carbon emissions" by 2030. 
  • Indian Railways has a significant number of stations, manufacturing units, large workshops and other establishments for which various green initiatives have been taken with the aim of environmental protection and reducing carbon footprints.
  • CII has been working with Indian Railways since July 2016 to promote and facilitate green initiatives in Indian Railways.The first MoU was signed in 2016. After its expiry another MoU was signed in 2019 for another 03 years.
  • Significant progress has been made so far under the above 02 MoUs. Energy efficiency initiatives at manufacturing facilities and railway workshops have resulted in energy savings of 210 lakh kilowatts, cash savings of Rs 16 crore and significant reduction in carbon dioxide emissions of around 18,000 tonnes.
  • Green Railway Stations: Around 40 stations have got green certificate. They have shown significant improvements by saving 22 million kilowatts of energy and 3 billion liters of water annually.
