Tamil Nadu cabinet meeting approves state women's policy
  • On behalf of the Industries Department, permits were issued for various new establishments. Already, investments of over Rs 6 lakh crore have been attracted at the World Investors Conference. 
  • As far as the social welfare department is concerned, a draft state policy for women has already been released. Based on that, in the Tamil Nadu Cabinet meeting held today, the State Women's Policy has been approved.
  • This state women's policy requires women to file a First Information Report within 24 hours of filing a complaint. 50 per cent reservation for women in leadership roles in public and private companies. 
  • The 6-month training for women who want to enter politics has important features including. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin will announce this policy next month.
  • Important decisions related to the Excise Department were also taken in this cabinet meeting. The meeting discussed various issues including reducing the number of Tasmac shops and increasing the tax on Tasmac liquor. 
  • Also, in preparation for the assembly session to be held next month, important features and new programs to be included in the governor's speech were discussed in this meeting.
BIG TECH company signed an agreement with Tamilnadu government
  • Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Bharat Innovative Glass Technologies Private Limited - BIG TECH, a joint venture of US-based Corning International Corporation and India's Optiemus Infracom Limited, today (23.1.2024) at the Headquarters in the presence of Stalin ) Company, Government of Tamil Nadu's Investment Promotion Agency 'Guidance' and 'BIG TECH' signed an MoU to set up a world-class glassware manufacturing plant for electronic devices with an investment of Rs.1003 Crores at Chipgat-Pillaipakkam Industrial Park, Kanchipuram District, providing employment to 840 people.
India rose to the 4th position in the global stock market rankings
  • Ahead of the opening of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, today's trade has reached an all-time high. The Sensex rose 551.09 points to trade at 71,974.74 in early trade. 
  • The Nifty rose 158 points to trade at 21,729.80, taking the Indian stock market capitalization to a record $4.33 trillion. Also, the Indian stock market surpassed Hong Kong to the 4th position in the global stock market rankings. The Hong Kong stock market is valued at $4.28 trillion
Taljit Singh appointed as new head of SSP
  • Shastra Seema Pal, a paramilitary organization under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, has been appointed as its new chief. Taljit Singh Chaudhary, a 1990-batch IPS officer from Uttar Pradesh, took charge as the head of Shastra Seema Pal, also known as SSP, on Tuesday.
  • Anish Dayal Singh, head of the Central Reserve Police Force and Acting Head of the SSP, handed over the charge to Taljit Singh Chaudhary. The induction ceremony was held at the head office of Shastra Seema Pal Organization in New Delhi. Taljit Singh Chaudhary will hold the post till November 2025.
  • Earlier, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved the Union Home Ministry's recommendation to appoint Chaudhary as SSP chief. Subsequently, the order was issued on January 19. Shastra Seema Pal, one of the central military formations, is responsible for protecting India's border with Nepal and Bhutan.
