24.82 crore people lifted out of poverty line in 9 years - Niti Aayog Report
  • According to a NITI Aayog discussion paper, multidimensional poverty in India has declined from 29.17% in 2013-14 to 11.28% in 2022-23. Around 24.82 crore people have moved out of the poverty line during this period. 
  • The national dimension of poverty is operationalized through three important dimensions: health, education and quality of life, which are represented by 12 Sustainable Development Goals-aligned indicators. 
  • These include nutrition, child and adolescent mortality, maternal health, years of schooling, school attendance, cooking fuel, sanitation, drinking water, electricity, housing, assets and bank accounts. 
  • NITI Aayog's National Dimensional Poverty Index (MPI) uses the Alkir Fur method to estimate the reduction in poverty rates. However, the national MPI includes 12 indicators, while the global MPI includes 10 indicators. 
  • In Uttar Pradesh, at the state level, 5.94 crore people have been lifted out of poverty. Following this, 3.77 crore people in Bihar and 2.30 crore people in Madhya Pradesh have moved out of poverty.
Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) has issued green bonds worth 61.1 billion Japanese yen
  • Rural Electrification Corporation (REC), a Maharatna PSU under the Ministry of Electricity, has issued its first green bonds worth 61.1 billion Japanese Yen (JPY) in 5-year, 5.25-year and 10-year terms. 
  • The proceeds from the issuance of the bonds will be used to fund eligible green projects in accordance with the Company's Green Finance Framework, Reserve Bank's Foreign Commercial Credit Guidelines and approvals from time to time.
  • The salient features of the transaction are as follows
  • REC's eleventh venture into the international bond market and maiden yen bond issue, the first yen green bond issued by an Indian public sector company.
  • The 5-year, 5.25-year and 10-year bonds are issued at a yield of 1.76%, 1.79% and 2.20% respectively.
  • Largest euro-yen issuance in South and Southeast Asia
  • Largest yen-denominated issuance from India
  • Largest ever yen-denominated issuance from South and Southeast Asia
  • The transaction saw interest from both Japanese and international accounts, with the number of orders from each accounting for 50%, the international quota being one of the highest for any other Indian yen contract.
Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, National Human Resource Development Framework Agreement to increase employment for persons with disabilities
  • On the concluding day of the International Purple Festival in Goa, the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities and the National Human Resource Development Framework signed an MoU. 
  • This collaboration aims to integrate employment opportunities for persons with disabilities through the Prime Minister's Energy and Skill User-Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities website, BM-Dakhsht. 
  • This MoU is a major step towards expanding the public outreach of the Department and fostering linkages with HR professionals nationwide. It aims to increase efforts to facilitate disability-friendly employment opportunities and promote an inclusive and diverse workforce.
