Chief Minister Stalin launched My Village Project
- Since the DMK government assumed power in 2021, Tamil Nadu Government's Tamil Nadu Welfare and Rehabilitation Department has been conducting the Tamil Nadu Day Festival every year.
- According to this, for the 3rd year now, Diaspora Tamils Day 2024 was held at Nandambakkam Trade Center in Chennai by the Department of Diaspora Tamils Welfare and Rehabilitation focusing on the theme of Tamil Victory.
- Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Australia, Singapore participated in this event. More than 1400 people of Tamil origin, ministers, academicians, poets and others from 58 countries including Dubai, England and America participated.
- On the first day (January 11), Youth Welfare and Sports Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin inaugurated the Tamil Nadu Day celebrations. He inaugurated more than forty exhibition halls of neighboring Tamils set up there. In this, a special event was held to mark the artist's centenary, a book release program by the neighboring Tamils.
- After that, under the leadership of Kaviperarasu Vairamuthu, Minister of Poetry, Information Technology and Digital Services Palanivel Thiagarajan and Minister of Industry D.R.P. A discussion seminar was held under the chairmanship of Raja.
- On the second day (January 12), Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, who participated in the Ayalak Tamil Day function, launched the project called My Village. Under this scheme, funds were given to the Ayalak Tamils who wanted to improve their mother's birth village in Tamil Nadu and implemented through this project. In this event, Singapore's Minister of Home Affairs and Law, Mr. Shanmugam was the chief guest.
- A new species of cloud forest silverline butterfly has been discovered in the Meghamalai section of Tiruvilliputhur Meghamalai Tiger Reserve, according to the Tamil Nadu Department of Environment, Climate Change and Forests.
- Cloud Forest Silverline in the Meghamalai range is a new species of butterfly discovered after 33 years in the Western Ghats. Silver Line Butterfly i.e. “Cigaridis meghamalaiensis New Butterfly Spices
- This new species of butterfly is named after Meghamalai. Meghamalai means cloud mountain. Dr. Kalesh Sathasivam, Mr. S. Iramasamy Kamaiah and Dr. C. P. Rajkumar, researchers from Vanam, an NGO based in Theni, have found out. It is now published in the scientific journal Entomon.
- Silver Line Butterfly i.e. “Cigaridis meghamalaiensis New Butterfly Spices. With this discovery, the total number of butterfly species in the Western Ghats has increased to 337. This includes 40 species in the Western Ghats.
- Neyveli Lignite Coal Company, a Navaratna company under the Ministry of Coal, has awarded a contract through IPC to Bhel for setting up a 2,400 MW (3 x 800 MW - Stage 1) Pit Head Greenfield Thermal Power Project in Jharsuguda district of Odisha. This project involves technology that operates at very high temperatures and pressures.
- The 2400 MW electricity produced in it is connected to the states of Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Kerala and Puducherry. Power purchase agreement for this is in process. 3 X800 MW - 2400 MW Stage-1- includes engineering, manufacture, supply, installation and commissioning of equipment like boilers, turbine, generators, balance of plants, FGD and SCR.
- For this thermal power project, 20 million tonnes of coal per annum is available from NLCIL's Dalapira 2 and 3 mines in Odisha's Jharsuguda and Sambalpur districts, which are coming on stream from 2020. The water required for this project will be sourced from the Hiragut Reservoir. The generated electricity is sent out through ISTS and STU network.
- The project will operate latest pollution control equipment like FGT and SCR to fulfill the guidelines of Union Ministry of Environment. The boilers are designed in conjunction with biomass handling systems as part of the green initiative to comply with Ministry of Energy guidelines.
- The first unit of the scheme will be commissioned in the financial year 2028-29. Since pit head is a thermal power project, the variable cost is low. And NLC India generates and supplies electricity to its consumers at low cost.
