  • The bill bringing together the progress and development in telecommunication, telecommunication service, telecommunication network (networks), allocation of spectrum (spectrum) was tabled in the Rajya Sabha today. 
  • Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnav introduced it in Rajya Sabha. The bill was debated and passed by voice vote. This bill was passed in the Lok Sabha yesterday (Wednesday) and has been passed in the Rajya Sabha today.
  • A bill to regulate the appointment of Chief Election Commissioner and Election Commissioners was passed in the Lok Sabha today. This Bill deals with the appointment of Chief Election Commissioner, appointment of Election Commissioners, their tenure of service and matters to be followed while in office. The bill was already passed in the Rajya Sabha and was passed in the Lok Sabha today.
  • Similarly, a bill to register newspapers and magazines was tabled in the Lok Sabha today. Union Minister Anurag Thakur introduced this bill in the Lok Sabha. 
  • In this regard, this Act is to be introduced to replace the existing Journals and Books Registration Act, 1867. It is noted that this bill has already been passed in the Rajya Sabha.

  • Minister Ponmudi has been sentenced to 3 years in prison in the case of wealth accumulation. Also Rs. 50 lakhs as fine by the Madras High Court today. The jail sentence has been suspended for 30 days to allow Ponmudi to file an appeal against the sentence.
  • The Madras High Court has given 30 days time to surrender and if they do not surrender within 30 days, the Villupuram Court has also ordered the Villupuram Court to carry out the procedures to make them suffer the punishment.
  • Since Tamil Nadu minister Ponmudi has been declared guilty in the asset hoarding case, he will lose his legislative and ministerial positions, the portfolio of higher education, which he held as a minister, has been transferred to Backward, Very Backward and Minorities Welfare Minister Rajakannappan.
  • Higher education department has been allotted to Backward Welfare Minister Raja Kannappan. Chief Minister Stalin recommended to the Governor to give the higher education department as an additional charge to Minister Raja Kannappan. Governor RN Ravi accepted it immediately and approved it.
  • Similarly, the Department of Khadi and Village Industries, which was held by Minister Rajakannappan, has been additionally allocated to Handicrafts Minister Gandhi. Governor Ravi has approved the Chief Minister's recommendation in this regard.
