Indian engineering sector exports to pick up in October
  • Exports of the Indian engineering sector to 18 key markets recorded positive growth in October this year, according to a report released by the Indian Engineering Export Promotion Consortium (EEPC).
  • Engineering exports to the US rose 2.2 percent to $1,391.5 million from $1,361 million in October last year. Engineering exports to Germany rose 20 percent to $342.7 million in October. Engineering exports to the UAE rose 2.9 percent to $348.6 million.
  • India's overall engineering exports increased by 7.2 percent to $8094.20 million in October this year as against $7550.69 million in October last year. Meanwhile, overall engineering exports declined by 1.61 percent to $61.63 billion during the April-October period last year from $62.63 billion in the same period this year.
  • He said that the demand in the metal sector has fallen in developed countries, especially in European Union countries. In October, India's engineering sector accounted for 24.11 percent of the country's total merchandise exports, the EEPC report said.
Union Cabinet approves Prime Minister's Development Scheme for Vulnerable Tribes
  • Prime Minister Mr. In the Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Narendra Modi, Rs. 24,104 crore (Central Government's share: Rs. 15,336 crore and State Government's share: Rs. 8,768 crore) approved Prime Minister's Development Scheme for Vulnerable Tribes.
  • According to the 2011 census, there are 10.45 crore tribals in India, including 75 communities located in 18 states and the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands classified as particularly vulnerable tribal groups.
Union Cabinet approves Sixteenth Finance Commission Regulations
  • Prime Minister Mr. The Union Cabinet chaired by Narendra Modi approved the norms of the Sixteenth Finance Commission. The regulations of the Sixteenth Finance Committee will be notified in due course. 
  • The recommendations of the 16th Finance Commission will be applicable for a period of five (5) years from 1st April, 2026, once accepted by the Government. Article 280(1) of the Constitution lays down the procedure for setting up a Finance Committee to recommend distribution of net revenue from taxes between the Central and State Governments and the distribution of that revenue between the respective States.
  • The Fifteenth Finance Committee was constituted on 27 November 2017. The recommendations of the Fifteenth Finance Commission are valid till the financial year 2025-26.
Free food grains for 5 years - Central Cabinet decision
  • The Cabinet meeting chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has decided to provide free food grains for five years from January 1, 2024 to about 81.35 crore beneficiaries under the Prime Minister's Poor Food Scheme.
  • This is a historic decision to implement the Prime Minister's Poor Food Program, one of the world's largest social welfare programs aimed at ensuring food and nutritional security to 81.35 crore people, at an estimated cost of Rs 11.80 lakh crore over a 5-year period.
Union Cabinet approves extension of Central Government funding scheme for special fast track courts for another three years
  • The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi decided to continue the fast track special court as a Central Government funded scheme of Rs.1952.23 crores (Rs.1207.24 crores as Central Government share and Rs.744.99 crores as State Government share) from 01.04.2023 to 31.03.2026. Approved.
  • The Central Government share is to be provided from the Nirbhaya Fund. Presently, the scheme has been extended upto 31.03.2026 with an allocation of Rs.1952.23 Crores from the Nirbhaya Fund.
Cabinet approves Centre's scheme to provide drones to women self-help groups
  • Prime Minister Mr. The Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Narendra Modi approved the central government's scheme to provide drones to women self-help groups at a cost of Rs 1261 crore from 2024-25 to 2025-26.
  • It aims to provide drones to 15,000 selected women self-help groups during the period 2023-24 to 2025-26.
13th National Senior Hockey Tournament - Punjab team champions for the 4th time
  • The 13th National Senior Hockey Championship for Men was held at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Hockey Stadium, Egmore, Chennai. Tamil Nadu and Karnataka teams clashed yesterday in the 3rd place match. A fast-paced match ended in a 3-3 draw after the allotted 60 minutes.
  • This was followed by a shoot out to decide the winner. In this, Tamil Nadu won by 5-3. The Tamil Nadu team, which placed 3rd, won the bronze medal.
  • Following this, Haryana and Punjab teams clashed in the final match. The match was tied 2-2 at the end of the stipulated 60 minutes. In this, the Punjab team won with the score of 9-8 and won the title of champion. 
  • This is the 4th time the team has won the title in the National Senior Hockey Tournament. The team that won the title was given a gold medal. 2nd runner-up Haryana bagged the silver medal.
