RED PLANET DAY 2023: On November 28th, space enthusiasts around the world come together to celebrate Red Planet Day, a tribute to the fourth planet from the sun, Mars. This Red Planet Day 2023 invites us to marvel at the mysteries of the “Red Planet” and reflect on its significance in the realm of space exploration.
Red Planet Day is observed annually on November 28 to honor the launch of Spacecraft Mariner 4. It’s also a day to acquaint yourself with Mars, popularly known as the red planet.
Spacecraft Mariner 4 completed the first successful flyby of Mars following three prior attempts. Launched on November 28, 1964, the spacecraft arrived on Mars on July 14, 1965.
22 images of the Martian surface were captured during the successful mission. These images are the first close-ups of any kind obtained from outer space. We’ve learned a great deal about the red planet thanks to this mission and a few more that followed.
