• தேசிய புற்றுநோய் விழிப்புணர்வு தினம் 2023 / NATIONAL CANCER AWARENESS DAY 2023: தேசிய புற்றுநோய் விழிப்புணர்வு தினம் நவம்பர் 7 அன்று உலகம் முழுவதும் அனுசரிக்கப்படுகிறது. 
• WHO புள்ளிவிவரங்களின்படி, புற்றுநோய் தொடர்பான இறப்புகளில் 70% குறைந்த மற்றும் நடுத்தர வருமானம் கொண்ட நாடுகளில் உள்ளது. 
• புகைபிடித்தல், அதிக உடல் நிறை குறியீட்டெண், குடிப்பழக்கம், சில பழங்கள் மற்றும் காய்கறிகளை சாப்பிடுவது மற்றும் போதுமான உடற்பயிற்சி செய்யாதது போன்ற காரணங்களால், மூன்றில் ஒரு பங்கு இறப்புகள் புற்றுநோயால் ஏற்படுகின்றன. புற்றுநோய் கணிசமான மற்றும் வளரும் நிதி தாக்கத்தை கொண்டுள்ளது.

• விழிப்புணர்வை உருவாக்க, புற்றுநோய் வராமல் தடுப்பது மற்றும் ஆரம்ப அறிகுறிகளின் அறிகுறிகளைக் கண்டறிவது எப்படி என்பதை விளக்கும் சிறு புத்தகங்களும் விநியோகிக்கப்படுகின்றன.
• மாவட்டங்கள் மற்றும் மருத்துவக் கல்லூரி மருத்துவமனைகளில் புற்றுநோய் சிகிச்சையை இலவசமாக்குவதற்கான "சுஹூர்தம்" திட்டத்தை கேரள அரசு முன்மொழிந்தது.

• தேசிய மருந்து விலை நிர்ணய ஆணையம் (NPPA) 2020 பிப்ரவரியில் 42 புற்றுநோய் எதிர்ப்பு மருந்துகளுக்கான வர்த்தக விளிம்பு பகுத்தறிவு குறித்த ஒரு பைலட்டை, பாதிக்கப்பட்ட நோயாளிகளுக்கு மிகவும் மலிவு விலையில் சுகாதார சேவையை வழங்குவதற்கான ஒரு படியாக அறிமுகப்படுத்தியது. இதனால் மருந்துகளின் விலை குறைந்துள்ளது.

• NATIONAL CANCER AWARENESS DAY 2023: National Cancer Awareness Day is observed on November 7 globally. According to WHO statistics, low- and middle-income nations account for about 70% of cancer-related fatalities. 
• Because of factors like smoking, having a high body mass index, drinking, eating few fruits and vegetables, and not exercising enough, about one-third of deaths are caused by cancer. Cancer has a sizable and growing financial impact.

History

• NATIONAL CANCER AWARENESS DAY 2023: National Cancer Awareness Day was first announced by the Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan in September 2014. Therefore in 2014, the day was celebrated for the first time and focuses on the early detection and cure of cancer.
• Let us tell you that, Harsh Vardhan first time launched the state-level movement on cancer control. On this day people are encouraged to report to government hospitals, CGHS, and municipal clinics for a free screening. To generate awareness information booklets are also circulated stating how to avoid getting cancer and look for signs of early symptoms.
• The government of Kerala proposed the "Suhurtham" scheme for making cancer treatment free in districts and medical college hospitals.

Indian Initiatives

• NATIONAL CANCER AWARENESS DAY 2023: National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases and Stroke (NPCDCS) is being implemented under National Health Mission (NHM) for up-to the district level activities.
• Under the ambit of Ayushman Bharat, Pradhan Mantri Jan ArogyaYojana (PM-JAY) is being implemented to reduce the financial burden for poor and vulnerable groups arising out of catastrophic hospital episodes and to provide access to quality health services.
• National Cancer Grid (NCG) is a network of major cancer centers, research institutes, patient groups and charitable institutions across India with the mandate of establishing uniform standards of patient care for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer, providing specialized training and education in oncology (study of cancer) and facilitating collaborative basic, translational and clinical research in cancer. It was formed in August 2012.
• National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) had launched a Pilot on Trade Margin Rationalisation for 42 anti cancer drugs in february 2020 as a step towards making healthcare more affordable for the suffering patients. This led to reduction in prices of drugs.
