Union Cabinet approves Krishna River Water Affairs Tribunal-2 under the Inter-State Water Affairs Act, 1956
  • The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved issuing further terms of reference to the existing Krishna River Waters Tribunal-2 under Section 5 (1) of the ISRT Act to resolve inter-state disputes between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. .
  • Resolving the dispute between the two states over the use, sharing or control of Krishna River water will open up new avenues for development in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh and will benefit the people of both states and thus help build our nation stronger.
  • The Krishna River Waters Tribunal-II was constituted by the Central Government on 02.04.2004 on the plea of the States under Section 3 of the ISRWT Act, 1956. Subsequently, on 02.06.2014, Telangana became a state of India. In terms of Section 89 of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act (APRA), 2014, the tenure of KWTD-2 was extended to address sub-sections (a) and (b) of section APRA, 2014.
  • Following this, the Government of Telangana sent a complaint on 14.07.2014 to the Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Ministry of Water Resources, Union Government, referring to the dispute over the use, distribution or control of Krishna river water.
  • In 2018, the central government asked the TOR, RD&GR, MOJS to refer the complaint to the existing KWTD-2 by delimiting the reference boundary between the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Later in 2020 the matter was discussed in the 2nd Apex Council meeting chaired by Minister (Jal Shakti). As discussed in the 2nd Council Meeting, the Government withdrew this Writ Petition in 2021.
Union Cabinet approves Tenancy Regulation, 2023 notification in Andaman, Nicobar Islands, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu, Lakshadweep
  • Prime Minister Mr. The Union Cabinet chaired by Narendra Modi approved a proposal to promulgate the Tenancy Regulation, 2023 in Andaman, Nicobar Islands, Tatra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu, Lakshadweep under Article 240 of the Constitution of India.
  • The notification will provide a legal framework to create a responsible and transparent ecosystem for renting premises in these Union Territories.
  • These regulations will encourage private investment and entrepreneurship in the rental market, ensure availability of adequate rental housing for various income segments of society including migrants, organized and informal workers, professionals, students; It will also help increase access to quality rental housing.
Union Cabinet approves amendment to Central Universities Act, 2009 for establishment of Sammakka Sarakka Central Tribal University in Telangana State
  • The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi approved the introduction of the Central Universities (Amendment) Bill, 2023 in the Parliament to further amend the Central Universities Act, 2009 to establish the Sammakka Sarakka Central Tribal University in Mulugu district of Telangana as stated in the Thirteenth Schedule of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act. .
  • For this, Rs. 889.07 crore will be allocated. The new university will not only increase access and improve quality of higher education in the state, but will also provide teaching and research facilities in tribal art, culture and traditional knowledge systems for the benefit of tribal people in the state. Through this, advanced knowledge facilities will be established in higher education. This new university will create additional capacity and try to eliminate regional disparities.
Cabinet approves revised costing for completion of remaining works of North Goyal Reservoir Project in Bihar and Jharkhand
  • To complete the remaining works of the North Goyal Reservoir Project in Bihar and Jharkhand, the Ministry of Water Resources, Rivers and Water Resources has estimated an estimate of Rs 2,430.76 crore (Central Government Share: Rs 1,836.41 crore) against the Rs 1,622.27 crore (Central Government Share: Rs 1,378.60 Crore) approved in August 2017. Prime Minister Shri. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by Narendra Modi gave the nod.
  • Once the remaining works are completed, an additional 42,301 hectares per year will be irrigated in four drought-prone districts of Jharkhand and Bihar.
Central Government notification to set up National Turmeric Board
  • The central government today issued a notification for setting up the National Turmeric Board. Through this the National Turmeric Board will focus on the development of turmeric production in the country.
  • The National Turmeric Board will provide leadership on turmeric-related matters, while the Aromatic Products Board will have greater coordination with other government agencies.
  • There is significant potential and interest in the health and well-being benefits of turmeric worldwide, which the Board will use to further increase awareness and consumption, create new markets internationally to increase exports, promote research and development into new products, and leverage our traditional knowledge for value-added turmeric products. 
  • It will especially focus on capacity building of turmeric producers, which will benefit more through value addition. The Board will promote quality and food safety standards and promote adherence to such standards. The Board will take steps to further conserve and utilize the full potential of turmeric.
  • The Board's activities will contribute to greater welfare and prosperity of turmeric growers by focusing on the sector and adding more value to the farms close to them, which will provide better returns to farmers for their produce.
