Messi won the Ballon d'Or for the 8th time
- Expectations among the fans were high as to who will win the Ballon d'Or award which is given annually to the best football player in the current year. As usual 30 players were nominated for this award. The players' performance from August 2022 to July 2023 was taken into account.
- The French magazine 'France Football' has been presenting this award annually since 1956 to the best footballers. The best player is selected by voting from among the players nominated for the award.
- In the current year, Kevin De Bruyne, Hollande, Messi, Mbappe and Rodri occupy the top five positions. Messi topped this and won the Ballon d'Or award for the current year. With this, he has won this award for the 8th time and created a record.
- He has previously won the Ballon d'Or in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2019 and 2021. He is currently playing for the Inter Miami club team. Adana Bonmati won the Ballon d'Or in the women's category. He plays for Spain. Manchester City won the best club team award in the men's category. Holland won the Gerd Muller Trophy. Martinus won the Yachine Trophy.
- India's Anish Bhanwala won a bronze medal at the Asian Shooting Championship in South Korea and qualified for the Paris Olympics.
- He finished 3rd with 28 points in the 25m rapid fire pistol men's individual category. Earlier, his Olympic berth was confirmed when he finished 3rd with 588 points in the qualifiers.
- Along with this, 12 Indians have qualified for the Paris Olympics in shooting alone. Bhavesh Shekhawat, another Indian who competed in the same category with Anish, finished 8th with 584 points. Vijayveer Sidhu was 10th with 581 points and Aadash Singh was 25th with 570 points.
- In the drop men's team category, the team of Jaravasingh Sandhu, Kinan Senai and Prithviraj Thondaiman won the silver by securing 2nd position with 341 points. Jarawasingh was ranked 6th in the individual category.
- In the women's category, Rajeshwari Kumari, Shagan Chaudhary and Preethi Rajak took the 7th, 8th and 10th positions respectively. At present, India has won 30 medals including 8 gold in this competition.
- Defense Minister Mr Rajnath Singh presided over the 'Run for Unity' organized by Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL) in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh on the occasion of the 148th birth anniversary of India's iron man Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
- The 1.5 km run was flagged off by the Defense Minister from near the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel statue in Hazratganj. The run ended at the KT Singh Babu Stadium.
- Thousands of people including school students, NCC team members, athletes, running enthusiasts, HAL players participated in the run.
