Rugby World Cup 2023 - South Africa Champions
- Defending champions South Africa and New Zealand clashed in the final of the Rugby World Cup in St Denis, France.
- In a highly contested match, South Africa won 12-11 to retain the trophy. The team has won the Rugby World Cup for the 4th time. President Cyril Ramboza (left) is greeted by the South African team with the World Cup trophy.
- Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Shri Miku Shoba Karandlaje inaugurated an international workshop on prevention of food loss and waste in the South Asian region in Delhi today.
- The International Workshop on Prevention of Food Loss and Waste in the South Asian Region was jointly organized by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research and the Dünen Institute of Germany.
- Dr. SK Choudhury, Deputy Director General, ICAR, Dr. Stephen Lange, Research Director, Thunen, Germany, Deputy Director General (AG Engineering), ICAR, Dr. S.N.Jha And around 120 delegates from India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, France, Germany, Indonesia, Nepal and Sri Lanka attended the event.
- Defense Minister Mr. Rajnath Singh called for the establishment of international joint mitigation frameworks in the Indian Ocean region to effectively deal with common maritime challenges such as climate change, piracy, terrorism, drug trafficking, overfishing and freedom of trade in the deep sea. He was addressing the fourth edition of the Goa Maritime Conference (GMC) today.
- In a three-day conference that started on the 29th, Defense Representative of Comoros, Mr. Mohamed Ali Youssoba, and the heads of naval forces, chiefs of maritime forces, and senior Representatives have attended.
- The theme of this fourth edition is 'Transforming Maritime Security Common Maritime Priorities into Joint Mitigation Frameworks in the Indian Ocean Region'. Organized by the Naval War College, Goa, several sessions are conducted during the conference. Discussions are conducted with eminent speakers and subject experts.
- Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya addressed the 76th session of WHO Regional Committee for South East Asia today. Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization, was also present.
- Health Ministers of Maldives, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Bhutan, Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Joint Secretary Manasvi Kumar, senior government officials and representatives of the World Health Organization attended the event.
- Coal India's subsidiary Southeastern Coalfields has committed to dispatch 100 million tonnes of coal in the 2023-24 financial year, including to power plants. This is the fastest shipment of 100 MT coal achieved by the Chhattisgarh-based company since its inception.
- About 85 million tonnes of coal were shipped during the same period last year. Thus the company has registered a growth of 17.65% in this financial year.
- The company has shipped about 81 million tonnes of coal to power plants across the country.
- With this more than 80% of the total coal is used for power generation. This is a remarkable achievement, keeping in mind the upcoming festive season, when power demand is at its peak.
- The South East Coalfields Company's mega projects Kewra, Dipka and Kusmunda located in Gorba district have contributed substantially to the shipment of 100 million tonnes of coal.
- Kewra, the country's largest coal mine, shipped 30.3 million tonnes of coal, while Dipka and Kusmunda shipped 19.1 million tonnes and 25.1 million tonnes respectively. 74 percent of coal is shipped from these three mega projects.
