History of World Anesthesia Day

• WORLD ANESTHESIA DAY 2023: The first World Anesthesia Day celebration was held on 16 October 1903 to mark the anniversary of successful application of anesthesia on October 16, 1846. 
• On this day, an American dentist and physician, William Thomas Green Morton, used diethyl ether anesthesia at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston.
• The anesthesia was used on a patient who has to undergo removal of a jaw tumor and he went through the surgery without any consciousness or pain. The day marked an important chapter in the history of surgeries and began to be observed globally as World Anesthesia Day.
