Indian Air Force successfully test-fired BrahMos missile

• The Indian Air Force (IAF) has successfully test-fired the BrahMos surface-to-surface missile near the Eastern Seaboard Archipelago. The Indian Air Force said the missile had met all its objectives.
• India and Russia are jointly developing BrahMos supersonic missiles. The missile is known as BrahMos in India and P-800 Onyx Yakhant in Russia.
• BrahMos Aerospace, a joint venture between India's Defense Research and Development Agency and Russia's joint venture partner Defense Industry Corporation, has credited BrahMos Aerospace for successfully testing a precision-targeted surface-to-surface attack variant of the BrahMos missile.
• The BrahMos missile is hailed as strengthening the might of the Indian Armed Forces and reaffirming the commitment to the Atmanirbar Bharat mission. BrahMos Aerospace was established in 1998. The company is responsible for designing, developing, manufacturing and marketing the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile.

Reliance Foundation Agreement with International Olympic Committee

• Reliance Foundation has tied up with Sarvasey Olympic Committee to impart Olympic education across India. Reliance Foundation Chairman Nita Ambani and International Olympic Committee Chairman Thomas Pham have signed the agreement.
• The initiative is aimed at promoting Olympic values through sports among the youth. The two leaders along with the students put their handprints on the Olympic Values Pledge Wall. It demonstrates a commitment to being a positive role model in both sports and everyday life.
• During the event, Thomas entertained the children by playing football. Nida Ambani interacted with the students and children and cheered them on. This event caused happiness among the two leaders.

Cabinet approves royalty rates for mining of three key minerals - lithium, niobium and rare earth elements (REEs)

• Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to amend the Second Schedule of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957 to fix royalty rate for mining of 3 major minerals namely Lithium, Niobium and Rare Earth Elements (REE). 
• The Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Act, 2023 was recently passed by the Parliament and will come into effect from 17 August 2023. This law amendment removes 6 minerals including lithium and niobium from the list of nuclear minerals and allows concessions for these minerals to be auctioned to private parties. Also, the amendment enables the central government to auction mining leases and compounding licenses for 24 major minerals (listed in Part D of the First Schedule to the Act), including lithium, niobium, and REEs (which do not contain uranium and thorium).
• The Union Cabinet's approval today to define the royalty rate will enable the Center to auction blocks for lithium, niobium and REEs for the first time in the country. The royalty rate on minerals is an important financial aspect for block bidders. Further, a methodology for calculating the Average Selling Price (ASP) of these minerals has also been prepared by the Ministry of Mines, which will help determine the bidding parameters.

Union Cabinet approves Memorandum of Understanding between India and Papua New Guinea to share successful digital solutions

• Prime Minister Mr. In a Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Narendra Modi, the MoU signed on July 28 between the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology of the Republic of India and the Ministry of Information and Telecommunication Technology of Papua New Guinea was approved. This MoU was entered into to collaborate on sharing successful digital solutions implemented on population scale for digital transformation.
• The MoU aims to promote closer cooperation and digital technology-based solutions in implementing digital transformation initiatives of both countries.
• This MoU shall come into effect from the date of signature by both parties. It will be valid for 3 years.
• In the field of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), bilateral cooperation between governments and commercial enterprises will be enhanced. The MoU aims at enhanced cooperation leading to employment opportunities in the IT sector.

Union Cabinet approves MoU between India, France for cooperation in digital technology sector

• In a Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the MoU on cooperation in the field of digital technology signed between the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology of the Republic of India, the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Industry of the Republic of France and Digital Sovereignty was approved.
• The MoU aims to promote closer cooperation and exchange of information related to digital technologies. And the MoU will mutually support each participant's goal of promoting access to digital technology in their country.
• Bilateral cooperation between the two countries and trade will be enhanced in the field of digital technology. This MoU will be aimed at promoting employment in the IT sector.
• The cooperation under this MoU shall be for a period of five (5) years commencing on the date of signature by both the participants.

• Prime Minister Mr. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed on August 11 between the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology of the Republic of India and the Ministry of Digital Technology of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago at a Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Narendra Modi. 
• This MoU was entered into to collaborate on sharing successful digital solutions implemented on population scale for digital transformation.
• The MoU aims to promote closer cooperation and sharing of experiences and digital technology-based solutions in implementing digital initiatives of both countries.
• This MoU shall come into effect from the date of signing by both parties and shall remain in force for a period of 3 years. In the field of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), bilateral cooperation between governments and commercial enterprises will be enhanced.
• The MoU aims at enhanced cooperation leading to employment opportunities in the IT sector.

• The primary objective of Mera Yuva Bharat is to make it a whole government platform for youth development. Under the new arrangement, with access to resources and connectivity to opportunities, youth will become social change agents and nation builders. It seeks to harness the immense potential of the youth for nation building.
