சூப்பர் ப்ளூ மூன் / SUPER BLUE MOON: நிலவு பூமியை ஒரு நீள்வட்டப் பாதையில் சுற்றி வருகிறது. இந்தப் பாதையில், நிலவு பூமியில் இருந்து மிகத் தொலைவான புள்ளியில் இருக்கும்போது சற்று சிறியதாகத் தோன்றும். இந்தப் புள்ளி பூமியில் இருந்து சராசரியாக 405,500 கிலோமீட்டர் தொலைவில் உள்ளது.
அதுவே நிலவு தனது நீள்வட்டப் பாதையில் பூமிக்கு மிக அருகில் வரும்போது சற்றே பெரிதாகத் தெரியும். இந்தப் புள்ளி பூமியில் இருந்து கிட்டத்தட்ட 363,300 கிலோமீட்டர் தொலைவில் உள்ளது.
இது மனித வரலாற்றில் நாட்காட்டிகள் கடந்து வந்த மாற்றத்தால் நிகழும் ஒரு சக நிகழ்வு மட்டுமே.
ப்ளூ மூன் என்றால் என்ன?
சூப்பர் ப்ளூ மூன் / SUPER BLUE MOON: ப்ளூ மூன் என்பது, ஒரே மாதத்தில் வரும் இரண்டாவது முழுநிலவு. இது அரிய நிகழ்வாகப் பார்க்கப்படுவதால், ஆங்கிலத்தில் 'ப்ளூ', அதாவது அரிதான நிகழ்வு என்ற அர்த்தத்தில் மேற்குலகில் அழைக்கப்படுகிறது.
ஐரோப்பிய காலண்டர் அமைப்பில் ஜூலியஸ் சீசர் மற்றும் அகஸ்டஸ் சீசர் ஆகிய ரோமானிய மன்னர்களின் பெயரில் ஜூலை மற்றும் ஆகஸ்ட் மாதங்கள் அடுத்தடுத்து 31 நாட்களுடன் இணைக்கப்பட்டதால், மாதங்களின் நாட்கணக்குகள் கூடக் குறைய மாறின.

அதாவது நிலவு தனது நீள்வட்டப் பாதையில் பூமிக்கு மிக அருகில் வரும்போது, அதுவே மாதத்தின் இரண்டாவது முழுநிலவாக அமைந்து விட்டால், அது சூப்பர் ப்ளூ மூன் என்று அழைக்கப்படுகிறது.
இது மிக அரிதான நிகழ்வாகப் பார்க்கப்படுகிறது. கடந்த சூப்பர் ப்ளூ மூன் 2009ஆம் ஆண்டு நிகழ்ந்தது. அடுத்த முறை இது 2037ஆம் ஆண்டு தான் நிகழும்.
