G20 Satellite Operation for Environment and Climate Monitoring
  • India on Saturday proposed to launch a G20 satellite operation for environment and climate monitoring to help countries around the world. Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave this advice at the G20 Summit held at the Bharat Mandapam International Conference Center in the presence of world leaders including US President Joe Biden, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.
  • Prime Minister Modi said the G20 satellite mission will benefit all mankind, just like the data obtained from India's successful Chandrayaan moon mission. In the same vein, India proposes to launch a 'G20 Satellite Mission' for environment and climate monitoring," he said. India invites all G-20 countries to join the initiative," PM Modi said at the G20 Leaders' Summit.
Addition of the African Union to the G20 organization with 55 member countries
  • The G20 was launched in 1999. The African Union has sought to join the organization for years. India is chairing the G20 organization this year and its summit began in Delhi. At the conference, the African Union became a new permanent member following the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will preside over the conference.
  • While inviting African Union President Azali Assavmani to sit on the G20 permanent membership seat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, 'In keeping with the spirit of inclusiveness, India proposed that the African Union should be given permanent membership status in the G20. I am sure everyone will agree to this proposal,” he said.
  • The world leaders then clapped their hands with joy and welcomed the African Union. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Prime Minister Modi inducted Azali Ashavmani as a permanent member.
  • The African Union became a permanent member of the G20. It is the first time the G20 has been expanded since its inception.

  • The grand G-20 conference, which is being led by our country, covers various aspects. Of these, the main five issues are the focus of the conference. 
  • The African Union has joined the G-20 as a new permanent member. Thus, developing countries are given greater participation in global decision-making.
  • Secondly, extensive rail and shipping connectivity has been announced to connect our country with the US, Saudi Arabia, the Gulf and Arab countries and the European Union. The India-Middle East-Europe Corridor project is an alternative arrangement to China's Belt Road project. 
  • The third important point is to call on the nations of the world to uphold international laws, including territorial integrity and sovereignty, international humanitarian law, and multilateral rules to protect peace and stability. 
  • Prime Minister Modi announced the launch of the Global Biofuels Alliance to boost the use of clean fuels.The alliance is set to accelerate global efforts to achieve zero emissions targets by facilitating trade in biofuels derived from a variety of sources, including plant and animal waste. 
  • The growing trust deficit among the world's nations in recent times means that greater cooperation among member states must be overcome.
