• உலக நோயாளிகளின் பாதுகாப்பு தினம் 2023 / WORLD PATIENT SAFETY DAY 2023: உலக நோயாளி பாதுகாப்பு தினம் என்பது ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும் செப்டம்பர் 17 ஆம் தேதி, நோயாளியின் தீங்கைக் குறைப்பதற்கான அறிவு மற்றும் வழிகாட்டுதலை வழங்குவதற்காக ஏற்பாடு செய்யப்படும் முக்கியமான உலகளாவிய பொது சுகாதார நிகழ்வுகளில் ஒன்றாகும். 
• நோயாளிகள், சுகாதாரப் பணியாளர்கள் மற்றும் போதிய சுகாதார வசதிகள் இல்லாததால், சரியான விழிப்புணர்வு மற்றும் தகவல் இல்லாததால் ஏற்படுகிறது. 
• உலக நோயாளி பாதுகாப்பு தினம் என்பது உலக சுகாதார அமைப்பின் 11 முக்கிய உலகளாவிய பொது சுகாதார பிரச்சாரங்களில் ஒன்றாகும்.
• சுகாதார சேவையை வழங்கும் பங்குதாரர்கள் நோயாளிகளுடன் சுறுசுறுப்பான ஈடுபாட்டுடன் நோயாளியைக் கையாள்வது குறித்து நன்கு அறிந்தவர்களாகவும், நன்கு அறிந்தவர்களாகவும் இருக்க வேண்டியது அவசியம். நோயாளியின் பாதுகாப்பு பல வழிகளில் சமரசம் செய்யப்படலாம்.

• உலக நோயாளிகளின் பாதுகாப்பு தினம் 2023 / WORLD PATIENT SAFETY DAY 2023: உலக நோயாளி பாதுகாப்பு தினம் 2023 செப்டம்பர் 17 அன்று "நோயாளிகளின் பாதுகாப்பிற்காக நோயாளிகளை ஈடுபடுத்துதல்" என்ற கருப்பொருளின் கீழ் அனுசரிக்கப்படுகிறது, இது சுகாதாரப் பாதுகாப்பில் நோயாளிகள், குடும்பங்கள் மற்றும் பராமரிப்பாளர்களின் முக்கிய பங்கை அங்கீகரிக்கிறது.
• நோயாளிகள் அவர்களின் பராமரிப்பில் பங்குதாரர்களாகக் கருதப்படும்போது, பாதுகாப்பு, நோயாளி திருப்தி மற்றும் ஆரோக்கிய விளைவுகளில் கணிசமான ஆதாயங்கள் ஏற்படுகின்றன என்பதை சான்றுகள் காட்டுகின்றன.

• WORLD PATIENT SAFETY DAY 2023: World Patient Safety Day is one of the important global public health events organized every year on 17th September to impart knowledge and guidance on reducing patient harm; happening due to lack of proper awareness and information's among the patients, healthcare staffs and insufficient healthcare facilities. 
• World Patient Safety Day is among the 11 important global public health campaigns by the World Health Organization.
• It is vital for the stakeholders catering healthcare service should be well skilled and well-informed towards patient handling with active engagement with patients. Patient safety can be compromised in several ways, but harm due to medication error has become a significant challenge to prevent avoidable damage in health care throughout the globe.
• It is evident that once in a lifetime, every person goes through medication for illness, so the proper consumption of medications becomes crucial. Improper medications due to any reason could be fatal or lead to many health complications. 
• Unsafe medication practice could happen due to several reasons like weak and inappropriate medication channels, partial involvement of medical staff, lack of facilities to store medicine and other human errors.

World Patient Safety Day 2023 Theme

• WORLD PATIENT SAFETY DAY 2023: World Patient Safety Day 2023 will be observed on 17 September under the theme "Engaging patients for patient safety", in recognition of the crucial role patients, families and caregivers play in the safety of health care. 
• Evidence shows that when patients are treated as partners in their care, significant gains are made in safety, patient satisfaction and health outcomes. By becoming active members of the health care team, patients can contribute to the safety of their care and that of the health care system as a whole.
• Through the slogan “Elevate the voice of patients!”, WHO calls on all stakeholders to take necessary action to ensure that patients are involved in policy formulation, are represented in governance structures, are engaged in co-designing safety strategies, and are active partners in their own care. 
• This can only be achieved by providing platforms and opportunities for diverse patients, families, and communities to raise their voice, concerns, expectations and preferences to advance safety, patient centeredness, trustworthiness, and equity.

History of World Patient Safety Day

• WORLD PATIENT SAFETY DAY 2023: World Patient Safety Day was established in May 2019 by the World Health Organization under the 72nd resolution brought by the World Health Assembly to advocate Global action on patient safety. This resolution resulted from many events related to Patient Safety in 2016 and the active participation of many concerned organizations.
• The urge to declare patient safety day emerged because of the growing complex healthcare systems and increased patient harm in healthcare facilities. 

Objectives of World Patient Safety Day

• WORLD PATIENT SAFETY DAY 2023: RAISE: It focuses on promoting global awareness of increasing medication harms due to medication errors and unsafe practices, urging for immediate action towards it.
• ENGAGE: This objective focuses on urging the healthcare stakeholders to prevent medication errors and reduce medication-related harm and law making bodies to enact such laws which could help in curbing the adverse incidence due to medication error.
• EMPOWER: It focuses on empowering patients and families around the world to practice safe use of medications
• SCALE UP: It aims at the proper implementation of the WHO Global Patient Safety theme- "Medication Without Harm".
