Prime Minister Modi named the place where the lander landed on the moon as 'Sivashakti'
- He went to South Africa to participate in the BRICS conference and also went to Greece on a one-day trip. From there he came directly to Bangalore. Prime Minister Modi met ISRO chief Somnath and the scientists who worked on the Chandrayaan 3 project at the ISRO center, shaking hands and applauding them.
- Women scientists have played an important role in the success of the Chandrayaan-3 programme. In honor of their contribution, the place where the lander landed on the moon will be named 'Sivashakti Centre'. August 23 is celebrated as National Space Day every year after the successful moon landing.
- The place where the Chandrayaan-2 lander crashed on the moon in 2019 will be named as 'Thiranga Centre'.
- National Good Teacher Award 2023 is going to be given soon. It is customary for teachers to be selected and awarded across the country. This year also 50 teachers have been selected for the above award. Two of them are from Tamil Nadu.
- Madurai District Alanganallar Government School Teacher Godvinvedanayagam Rajkumar and Tenkasi District Keezhapavoor Weerakeralambudur Government School Teacher Malathi have been selected.
- The World Badminton Championship is being held in Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark. In the men's singles semi-finals, Pranoi played third-seeded Thailand's Kunlaut Widitsorn. He lost the match 18-21, 21-13, 21-14. So he has completed the ongoing World Badminton Championship with a bronze medal.
- The ISSF World Shooting Championship is being held in Baku, Azerbaijan. In the women's 50m pistol team category, the Indian team consisting of Sakshi Suryavanshi and Kirandeep Kaur won the gold medal by accumulating 1,573 points. This was India's 6th gold medal in the series.
- China bagged the silver medal with 1,567 points and Mongolia bagged the bronze medal with 1,566 points. In the women's 50m pistol individual event, India's Tiana scored 533 points to win the bronze medal.
- In the men's 50m pistol team event, the Indian team consisting of Kamaljeet and Vikram Shinde won the bronze medal with a score of 1,646 points. India's Ravinder Singh bagged the bronze medal in the individual category of the same event with 556 points.
- The G20 Culture Ministers meeting under the chairmanship of India convened in Varanasi today. Culture Ministers and dignitaries of G20 member states and representatives of international organizations attended the meeting.
- Under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture, the G20 Cultural Working Group (CWG) under the chairmanship of India was engaged in formulating concrete action-oriented decisions for the four priority areas articulated by India's Commonwealth Competition.
- This engagement was achieved through ongoing discussions through Commonwealth meetings, bilateral sessions and a series of globally themed webinars. The Culture Ministers' Meeting (CMM) was the culmination of all the discussions, debates and initiatives of the previous meetings.
- The outcome document of the Indian Culture Ministers' Meeting was titled "Kashi Cultural Pathway". The G20 MoU unanimously adopted the decision to name the Khasi Cultural Route. Culture Ministers released a special edition postage stamp today on 26th August 2023 in Varanasi.
- The 5th edition of the annual Asindex maritime exercise between the Indian Navy and the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) was held in Sydney, Australia from 22nd to 25th August. INS Sahyadri and INS Kolkata participated in the exercise, along with HMAS Sauls and HMAS Brisbane from Rennes. Apart from ships and their integrated helicopters, fighter jets and maritime patrol aircraft also took part in the exercise.
- Conducted over 4 days, Asindex consisted of a series of complex exercises in all three domains of maritime operations. The exercise culminated in a review of common procedures and re-affirmation of close ties and interoperability between the Indian Navy and the RAN.
