World Athletics Championships 2023
  • The World Athletics Championships are being held in Budapest, Hungary. In the women's pole vault final, Australia's Nina Kennedy and the reigning champion and Olympic champion Katie Moon of the United States set a world record by clearing a height of 4.90 meters each. After this both were declared champions. Vilma Murdo of Finland won the bronze medal with a jump of 4.80m.
  • England's Josh Kerr won gold in the men's 1,500m. He topped the race distance in 3 minutes 29.38 seconds. Norway's Jacob Ingbrigsson (3:29.65) won the silver medal and Norway's Kilje Nordhaus (3:29.68) won the bronze medal.

7,800 crore purchase of military equipment - Union Ministry of Defense approves
  • Defense Minister Rajnath Singh chaired the Army Logistics Procurement Committee meeting in Delhi yesterday. In this, approval has been given for the purchase of various military equipment worth Rs.7,800 crore. Accordingly, approval has been given to procure and install electronic warfare equipment on Mi-17 V5 helicopters to enhance Air Force efficiency. These weapons are to be procured from Bell.
  • Similarly, approval has been given to procure a light machine gun, weapons for the Navy's MH-60R helicopter, unmanned surveillance, ammunition, fuel supply and automatic armored vehicles to help rescue the wounded on the battlefield. The Army has also been allowed to purchase laptops and tablets under Project Shakti. It is to be noted that all these purchases are to be sourced from domestic companies only.
Wrestling Association of India Banned
