• ஒருங்கிணைந்த யானைகள் கணக்கெடுப்பு 2023 / INTEGRATED ELEPHANT CENSUS 2023: கேரள, கர்நாடக அரசுகளின் ஒத்துழைப்புடன் ஒருங்கிணைந்த யானைகள் கணக்கெடுப்பை தமிழக வனத் துறை கடந்த மே 17 முதல் 19-ம் தேதி வரை நடத்தியது. 
• மத்திய சுற்றுச்சூழல், வனத்துறை அமைச்சகத்தின்கீழ் உள்ள யானைகள் திட்ட இயக்குநரகத்தின் பரிந்துரைப்படி, நேரடி, மறைமுக முறைகளை பயன்படுத்தி யானைகளின் எண்ணிக்கையை கணக்கிடுவது, தமிழகத்தின் 26 வனக் கோட்டங்களில் நடைபெற்றது.
• அதன்படி, தமிழகத்தில் கடந்த 2017-ல் 2,761 ஆக இருந்த யானைகள் எண்ணிக்கை தற்போது 2,961ஆக அதிகரித்துள்ளது. தமிழகத்தின் 4 பிற காப்பகங்களைவிட நீலகிரி கிழக்கு தொடர்ச்சி மலையானைகள் காப்பகம் அதிக எண்ணிக்கையில், அதாவது 2,477 யானைகளை கொண்டுள்ளது. 
• ஆண் யானை, பெண் யானை விகிதம் 1:2.17 என உள்ளது. கிழக்குதொடர்ச்சி மலைகளில் 1,105 யானைகள், மேற்கு தொடர்ச்சி மலைகளில் 1,855 யானைகள் உள்ளன.
• புலிகள் காப்பகங்களை பொருத்தவரை, முதுமலை காப்பகத்தில் ஊட்டி கோட்டம் - 444, மசினகுடி - 346, சத்தியமங்கலம் காப்பகத்தில் சத்தியமங்கலம் - 396, ஆசனூர் - 272, ஆனைமலை புலிகள் காப்பகத்தில் 211 என மொத்தம் 1,669 யானைகள் உள்ளன.
• மே 12 முதல் 16-ம் தேதி வரை பல்வேறு யானை சரகங்களில் 1,731 துறை பணியாளர்கள், 368 தன்னார்வலர்கள் என மொத்தம் 2,099 பேர் கணக்கெடுப்பில் ஈடுபடுத்தப்பட்டனர். 3,496 சதுர கி.மீ. பரப்பளவிலான 690 பிளாக்குகளில் கணக்கெடுப்பு நடந்தது. 
• ஒவ்வொரு 5 சதுர கி.மீ. பரப்பும் பல சிறு பிளாக்குகளாக பிரிக்கப்பட்டு, மே 17-ம் தேதி கணக்கெடுப்பு நடத்தப்பட்டது. 18-ம் தேதி யானை பிண்டம் கணக்கெடுப்பும், 19-ம் தேதி 26 வனக் கோட்டங்களில் நீர்க்குமிழிகள் முறை மூலமாகவும் கணக்கெடுப்பு நடத்தப்பட்டது.
• தமிழக அரசு மேற்கொண்ட பல்வேறு வன உயிரின பாதுகாப்பு நடவடிக்கைகள், குறிப்பாக யானைகள் பாதுகாப்பு இயக்கம் மூலம் மேற்கொண்ட நடவடிக்கைகளால் தமிழகத்தில் யானைகள் எண்ணிக்கை அதிகரித்துள்ளது. 
• அகத்தியமலை யானைகள் காப்பகம், தமிழ்நாடு யானைகள் பாதுகாப்பு இயக்கம், யானைகள் வாழிடங்களை பாதுகாத்தல், மேம்படுத்துதல் போன்ற தமிழக அரசின் நடவடிக்கைகளும் இதற்கு காரணம்.
• இந்நிலையில், 'ஒருங்கிணைந்த யானைகள் கணக்கெடுப்பு - 2023' அறிக்கையை முதல்வர் ஸ்டாலின் சென்னை தலைமைச் செயலகத்தில் வெளியிட்டார்.
• இந்த நிகழ்ச்சியில், வனத் துறைஅமைச்சர் மதிவேந்தன், தலைமைச்செயலர் சிவ்தாஸ் மீனா, வனத் துறைசெயலர் சுப்ரியா சாகு, முதன்மை தலைமை வனப் பாதுகாவலர்- தலைமை வன உயிரின காப்பாளர் ஸ்ரீனிவாச ரா.ரெட்டி, முதுமலை புலிகள் காப்பக இயக்குநர் டி.வெங்கடேஷ் உள்ளிட்டோர் பங்கேற்றனர்.

• INTEGRATED ELEPHANT CENSUS 2023: The Tamil Nadu Forest Department conducted an integrated elephant census in collaboration with Kerala and Karnataka governments from May 17 to 19. As per the recommendation of the Directorate of Elephants Program under the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests, counting of elephants using direct and indirect methods was done in 26 forest divisions of Tamil Nadu.
• Accordingly, the number of elephants in Tamil Nadu has increased from 2,761 in 2017 to 2,961 at present. The Nilgiri Eastern Ghats Elephant Sanctuary has a larger number of 2,477 elephants than the 4 other sanctuaries in Tamil Nadu. The male to female elephant ratio is 1:2.17. There are 1,105 elephants in the Eastern Ghats and 1,855 in the Western Ghats.
• As far as tiger reserves are concerned, there are 1,669 elephants in Mudumalai Reserve, Ooty Kottam - 444, Masinagudi - 346, Sathyamangalam Reserve - 396, Asanur - 272, Anaimalai Tiger Reserve - 211.
• A total of 2,099 people including 1,731 department staff and 368 volunteers were involved in the survey from May 12 to 16 in various elephant stocks. 3,496 sq km. The survey was conducted in 690 blocks of area. Every 5 sq. km. 
• The spread was divided into several small blocks and the survey was conducted on May 17. On the 18th, the Elephant Bindam survey was conducted and on the 19th, the survey was conducted in 26 forest zones through the water bubble method.
• The number of elephants in Tamil Nadu has increased due to the various wildlife conservation activities undertaken by the Tamil Nadu government, especially through the Elephant Conservation Movement. 
• This is also due to the activities of the Tamil Nadu government such as Agathiyamalai Elephant Sanctuary, Tamil Nadu Elephant Conservation Movement, conservation and development of elephant habitats.
• In this context, Chief Minister Stalin released the 'Integrated Elephant Census - 2023' report at the Chennai headquarters. Forest Minister Mathiventhan, Chief Secretary Sivdas Meena, Forest Secretary Supriya Chagu, Principal Chief Forest Conservator-Chief Wildlife Conservator Srinivasa Ra. Reddy, Mudumalai Tiger Reserve Director D. Venkatesh and others participated in this event.
