28 Percent GST for online gaming
  • A lot of gambling tournaments are going on all over the country through the internet called online. The central government decided to monitor these, properly register them and bring these games under the ambit of goods and services tax known as GST. 
  • Apart from this, indoor casinos and horse racing were also planned to be brought under the ambit of GST. Implementation After this, 18 percent GST was levied on those games.
  • In this case, a committee of state finance ministers recommended to increase the GST for these sports to 28 percent. As some states including Goa, Sikkim and New Delhi objected to this, it was not possible to reach a consensus on its implementation. 
  • Therefore, the committee of state finance ministers re-examined this and again recommended to the GST Council to impose a tax of 28 percent. This was approved. In this case, Union Finance Minister Nirmala tabled the Bills 'Central GST, Law Amendment Bill 2023, Integrated GST, Law Amendment Bill 2023' in both houses of Parliament. Subsequently, these bills were passed without discussion in both houses yesterday.

  • The meeting is being held under the chairmanship of Cauvery Management Authority Chairman SK Haldar. Water Resources Secretary Sandeep Saxena, Cauvery Technical Committee Chairman Subramaniyam participated on behalf of Tamil Nadu.
  • Water Resources Department Secretaries and officials of Tamilnadu Karnataka, Kerala and Puducherry states have participated in this meeting.
