The Union Government approved the purchase of 70 training aircraft from HAL at a cost of Rs 6,828 crore
  • Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), a Union Government Public Sector Enterprise, is the leading aircraft manufacturer in the country. It manufactures passenger aircraft, fighter aircraft, training aircraft, helicopter etc. 
  • The Union government, which is keen to strengthen the Indian Air Force, approved the purchase of new training aircraft for the Indian Air Force in a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently.
  • In order to implement it, it has received approval to purchase 70 training aircraft of type HDD-40 from HAL at a cost of Rs 6,828.36 crore. It has been reported that an agreement has been signed to buy these training planes gradually over the next 6 years and induct them into the Air Force. 
  • Through the scheme of the Union Government, the business of the HAL factory will increase and 1,500 people will be directly employed and 3,000 people will be indirectly employed.

  • The 24-year-old Czech Republic's Vondrousova defeated Jabur 6-4, 6-4 to win her first Grand Slam title. Vondrousova has a world ranking of 42 and became the first unranked player to play in the final at Wimbledon.
2023 Wimbledon Championships - Spain's Carlos Algarz wins men's singles title for first time
  • The 20-year-old Algarz faced the 36-year-old Djokovic in the final in London. Djokovic won the first set 6 to 1 in this thrilling match. Algaras won the 2nd set 7 to 6 and easily won the 3rd set 6 to 1.
  • However, Djokovic mustered his experience and energy to take the 4th set 6 to 3. Thus the match went to the last set to decide the champion. Carlos won the last set 6 to 4 in this thrilling match. Carlos Algarz won 1-6, 7-6, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 in this match that lasted 4 hours and 42 minutes and won the title of champion for the first time.
  • This ended Djokovic's streak of winning 4 consecutive Wimbledon titles. A prize money of INR 25 Crores and 25 Lakhs was given to Algaras who won through this.
24th Asian Athletics Championship Series - Day 5
