France's highest award for PM Modi
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a 2-day visit to France. Prime Minister Modi is going to participate as a special guest in the function as the National Day of France is being celebrated.
  • Earlier, Prime Minister Modi was awarded France's highest award, the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honor. French President Emmanuel Macron presented the award. This made Prime Minister Modi the first Indian Prime Minister to receive the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour.
  • The Grand of the Legion of Honor is the highest award given by France to military and high-ranking political leaders. It is noteworthy that earlier this award has been received by former South African President Nelson Mandela, former Prince of Wales Charles, former German Chancellor Angela Merkel, former United Nations Secretary General Boutros Boutros-Khali.
CM inaugurates Rs 1,559 crore 'Industry 4.0' Technology Centers in 45 Government ITIs in Tamil Nadu
  • Vocational Training Institutes (ITIs) are being run by Labor Welfare Department in various parts of Tamil Nadu to help students get employable skills and get suitable employment by getting vocational training.
  • Government ITIs are currently providing training in 78 trades such as fitter, turner, machinist, electrician, welder, AC mechanic. The youth of Tamil Nadu should get future jobs according to the changing technologies. For this purpose, Tamil Nadu Government has planned to upgrade 71 Government ITIs as Technology Centers to provide 'Industry 4.0' level skill training at a cost of Rs 2,877.43 crore.
  • Accordingly, the Tamil Nadu government entered into an MoU with Tata Technologies on June 14 last year to create 'Industry 4.0' technology centers in 71 government vocational training institutes.
  • As a follow up, 'Industry 4.0' technology centers have been set up in 45 government ITIs in the 2nd phase at a cost of Rs.1,559.25 crore. Chief Minister M.K.Stalin inaugurated these centers in a video. Through this, an additional 5,140 students will be admitted to government ITIs every year.
Ministry of Defense agreement to promote small grain food
  • An agreement was signed between the Ministry of Defense and the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to promote small grain diets to our soldiers.
  • The MoU will encourage small grains and healthy eating habits among the soldiers and ensure their access to safe and nutritious food. The MoU will pave the way for introduction of small grains menus in messes, canteens and other food outlets under the Ministry of Army.
Approval to buy 26 Rafale fighter jets from France
  • A meeting of the Defense Procurement Council chaired by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh approved the acquisition of 26 Rafale fighter jets and 3 Scorpion class submarines from France.
  • Considering the need of the Indian Navy, it has been approved to acquire 26 Rafale maritime fighter jets and three Scorpion class diesel electric submarines from France. Apart from this, as per the agreement signed between the two countries in this regard, arms, aircraft equipment and pilot training and logistical support will also be available from France. 
  • In addition, maintenance and repair operations, as well as installation of indigenous weapons on these aircraft will also be included in the contract. The cost of the aircraft will be finalized based on the talks with the French government. 
  • The three submarines will be built in Mumbai by Mazecon Shipbuilding in collaboration with France. In this, domestic equipment will be used more. This will increase domestic employment opportunities.
Ashwin has crossed 700 wickets in international cricket
  • The Indian team is touring the West Indies for a two-Test series. The first Test match between the two teams is being played in Dominica. West Indies won the toss and were all out for 150 runs. Ashwin took 5 wickets in this.
  • With this, he became the 3rd Indian player to take 700 wickets in international matches. This includes 477 wickets in Test cricket, 151 wickets in ODIs and 72 wickets in T20Is. Kumble and Harbhajan Singh have already taken 700 wickets.
  • And 33 times Ashwin has taken 5 wickets. Also a father in international cricket. Ashwin took the wickets of his son and set a new record. In the ongoing match, Ashwin took the wicket of former West Indies star Shivnarine Chanderpal's son Tagnarine Chanderpal. Also, in the last 2011 and 2013, Ashwin has bowled out his father Shivnarain Chanderpal.
India-Bangladesh trade begins in rupees
  • Bangladesh Governor Abdul Rauf Talukdar has said that India has started trading in rupees on the basis of reducing US dollar trade between Bangladesh.
  • Steps have been taken to start rupee trade as the first step in a bigger journey between the two countries. Trading will now be based on the exchange of the two currencies of Bangladesh's Taka and India's Rupee.
  • This transaction will significantly reduce the cost of trade with India and this new transaction system will be fully operational from September.
Asian Athletics Championships 2023 - Day 2
  • After 4 years, the Asian Athletics Championship is being held in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand. On the 2nd day of the competition, which started last Wednesday, the Indian team has won 3 gold medals.
  • In the women's 100m hurdles event, Indian athlete Jyothiarrajee crossed the target in 13 points and 9 seconds to clinch the gold medal. With this, India won gold for the first time in the 100m race at the Asian Athletics Championships.
  • Similarly, in the men's 1,500m race, India's Ajay Kumar Saroj stunned by winning gold. India's Abdullah Abubakar brought pride to the country by winning gold in the men's triathlon event. Aishwarya Kailash Mishra wins bronze in women's 400m. Tejaswin Shankar won a bronze.
  • India is currently third in the medal tally with a total of 6 medals. China is second with 3 golds, 3 silvers and 1 bronze, followed by Japan with 7 golds, 8 silvers and 3 bronzes.
INS Sunaina participated in the Integrated Naval Exercise 'Operation Southern Readiness - 2023'
  • INS Sunaina proceeded to Seychelles from 10-12 July 2023 to participate in Operation Southern Readiness 2023, an exercise conducted by the combined navies. The expedition was aimed at improving maritime security and ensuring protection against piracy. A multinational initiative, the CMF aims to strengthen multilateral relations and enhance cooperation through training.
  • Defense forces and naval personnel from countries including USA, Italy, England, Seychelles participated in this exercise. Maneuvering of the ship, VPSS (Basic and Advanced Training), emergency evacuation drills etc. were explained during the training.
  • A yoga session was then organized for the ship's crew, Seychelles Defense Forces and soldiers who participated in the exercise.

  • Union Home and Cooperatives Minister Mr Amit Shah addressed the opening session of the G20 Summit in Gurugram, Haryana on NFT, Artificial Intelligence and Crime and Security in the Metaverse Era. Minister of State for Home Affairs Mr. Ajay Kumar Mishra, Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Mr. Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Union Home Secretary and dignitaries attended the conference. 
  • More than 900 participants from G20 countries, 9 special invitation countries, international organizations, technical experts from India and abroad are participating in this 2-day conference.
