Center approves kalaignar pen memorial project
- The Union Ministry of Environment has granted Coastal Regulatory Zone (CRZ) approval to the Tamil Nadu government's project for the 'Muthamith Scholar Dr. Kalaignar Pena Memorial' to be set up at the Marina Beach in Chennai with 15 conditions.
- With this final approval, the state government can begin the process of implementing the proposal. In a letter to the Public Works Department dated June 19, the Union Ministry said the CRZ clearance was granted based on the recommendations of the Expert Appraisal Committee and the Tamil Nadu Coastal Zone Management Authority.
- The Tamil Nadu government has proposed a project proposal to build this pen monument with a height of 30 meters and an area of 8 thousand 551 square meters to honor the glory of former Chief Minister Karunanidhi. It includes a pen pedestal, a lattice bridge above the beach and land above the sea and a pedestrian walkway. The 7 meter wide bridge will be 290 meters long on land and 360 meters over sea.
