- The Special Olympics World Games are being held in Berlin, Germany. India's Gitanjali Nagwekar won the gold medal in the women's 800m race. He belongs to the state of Goa. India's Vishal won 4 silver medals in men's weightlifting. He excelled in swat (122.50 kg), deadlift (155) and bench press (85).
- Vishal also bagged a silver medal in the combined category. 16-year-old Vishal hails from Puducherry state.
- Swaminathan Janakiraman, Managing Director of SBI, has been officially announced as the Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank. It has been reported that Swaminathan will continue in the position of Deputy Governor for three years from the date of joining the post or until further orders.
