Domestic coal production has increased by about 23 percent in the last 5 years
  • India's coal production for FY 2022-23 was 893.08 million tonnes. This is an increase of 22.6 percent over FY 2018-19. Coal production in 2018-19 was 728.72 million tonnes. The ministry is prioritizing reducing coal imports and increasing domestic coal production. 
  • The production of Indian Coal Company has increased by 703.21 million tonnes in the last 5 years. This is an increase of 15.9 percent over FY 2018-19. SCCL produced 67.14 million tonnes of coal in the last financial year 2022-23. This is an increase of 4.3 percent over FY 2018-19.
  • The annual coal production target for the current financial year 2023-24 has been set at 1012 million tonnes.

  • The Ministry of Home Affairs has decided to introduce small grains in the diet of Central Armed Police Forces and National Disaster Response Force during the International Year of the Child - 2023 under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. Accordingly, after detailed discussions with all the soldiers, as requested by the Minister of Home Affairs and Cooperatives, Mr. Amit Shah, 30 percent of the rations have been introduced with small grains. 
  • The UN has declared 2023 as the International Year of Small Grains due to the central government's efforts to recognize the importance of small grains and address the need for small grains both domestically and globally.
