MAHARANA PRATAP JAYANTI 2023: Maharana Pratap was born in a Hindu family of Rajputs on May 9, 1540, in Kumbhalgarh and was a descendant of the Sisodia dynasty. Being the eldest of the siblings, the senior courtiers of the Royal court recommended Pratap take the reins as the next King after his father, Udai Singh II passed away.
Maharana Pratap proved to be a great king who took care of his subjects and kept them safe from oppressive Mughal Rule. The roots of this festival trace back to the battle of Haldighati fought on June 18, 1576, between the forces of Maharana Pratap and Mughal Emperor Akbar.
It so happened that Maharana Pratap bluntly refused to form any kind of alliance with the great Mughal Emperor Akbar. Thus, the war became inevitable. Soon, the armies were in front of each other.
It is said that the Rajputana army was greatly outnumbered still, a ferocious battle followed in which the Mughals came out as the winners. However, the Mughal army couldn’t capture the Rajput king as he was able to flee successfully to plan another attack on the Mughals. And it is to honour this fearlessness, bravado, and bold attitude of Maharana Pratap that his Jayanti is celebrated with great reverence, particularly in Northern India.
