'QR' code app for people's services under the Clean Governance Scheme: Chief Minister M K Stalin launches
  • On behalf of Municipal Administration and Drinking Water Supply Department, Chief Minister M.K.Stalin yesterday launched the 'Quick Dulangal (QR) Code' software application for the services provided to the people living in all Municipal Corporations, Municipalities and Townships at the Chief Secretariat. He launched the sale of natural fertilizer made from continuous wet waste under the name 'Sehilpu'.
  • Digitization in Tamil Nadu government administrative functions is being introduced departmentally on the basis of emerging information technology. Accordingly 'QR' code software application has been launched. This 'QR' code will be conveniently pasted on the facades of each structure by the municipal staff.
  • Through this, the public has been given a means to report the deficiencies in the local government services, so that the local government employees can improve their work and provide satisfactory services to the people.
  • Get notifications about all tax dues including property tax and pay the amount through the app. Birth, death can be registered from home by scanning QR code. The details of the action taken on the complaints/requests received and their status can be known immediately.
  • Also, if the public registers their opinions through the 'QR' code installed in all places used by the public including local government structures, parks, bus stations, crematoriums, markets, playgrounds, urban welfare centers, toilets etc. has been done.
  • All requests/complaints submitted by the public through 'QR' code will be received in a coordinated manner at the control room in the local government office. Then all the services to the public will be fully implemented through this efficient governance scheme as they will be resolved by the concerned officers.
  • A natural fertilizer made from wet waste has been introduced for sale under the name 'Sehilpu'. In all the urban local bodies in Tamil Nadu, 15,000 tons of sewage is collected every day.
  • At 629 locations in Municipal Corporations, 334 locations in Municipalities and 489 locations in Municipalities, Biodegradable waste is scientifically processed and converted into organic compost at micro-composting centers and aeration centers. This fertilizer will be distributed to farmers and public.
ISRO semi-cryogenic engine test success at Mahendragiri
  • ISRO's Rocket Engine Test Center is located in Mahendragiri, Tamil Nadu. A new Semi-Cryogenic Engine Test Center has been started here. A 2000 KN (kilonewton) semicryogenic engine was successfully tested here yesterday, ISRO headquarters in Bengaluru said.
  • This 2000 kN engine can run on liquid oxygen and kerosene. ISRO said that this type of engine will be used in future rockets. The operation of the low pressure and high pressure turbo pumps, gas generator and control equipment in this engine was tested for the first time yesterday. 
  • The engine design was developed by ISRO's Liquid Fuel Engine Center (LPSC). ISRO said the semi-cryogenic engine test carried out yesterday was a major achievement ahead of the full-scale engine test.
  • The test which took about 15 hours was completed successfully. This test of a semi-cryogenic engine led to further experiments. Through this, ISRO rockets will carry heavy satellites in future.
The country's retail price inflation is at an 18-month low
  • The country's retail price inflation fell to an 18-month low of 4.7 percent in April, the Central Bureau of Statistics announced. Retail price inflation eased in April last year due to fall in food prices. In March last year, retail price inflation was 5.66 percent.
  • This has increased to 7.79 percent in April last year. Before this, it was the lowest rate of 4.48 percent in October 2021. According to Central Statistics Office data, in the food category, inflation decreased to 3.84 percent in April. 
  • This is 4.79 percent in the previous month of March; It was also 8.31 percent in April last year. The Reserve Bank has predicted retail price inflation to be 5.2 percent in the current financial year. The Reserve Bank formulates its monetary policy based on retail price inflation.
  • Every two months, the RBI's Monetary Policy Committee meets and announces its monetary policy, the 'repo' rate for short-term lending to banks and the 'reverse repo' rate for short-term lending from banks, based on retail price inflation. The ratio is fixed.

  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for projects worth Rs 4,400 crore in Gandhinagar, Gujarat and inaugurated the pending projects. In this, he laid the foundation stone for development projects worth Rs.2450 crore in the areas of urban development, drinking water supply, road and transport, mines and minerals.

Prof. Jayant Vishnu Norlikar to receive first-ever Indian Astronomical Society Govind Swaroop Lifetime Achievement Award
  • Celebrating its golden jubilee in 2022, the Indian Astronomical Society announced the Govind Swaroop Lifetime Achievement Award to recognize distinguished Indian astronomers who have contributed to the field of astronomy and astrophysics in India. The award is named after Professor Govind Swarup (1929-2020).
