The Tamil Nadu government has issued an ordinance banning the Kuravan-Kurathi Dance
  • In Tamil Nadu, most of the temple programs are conducted with dance and song performances. There are various complaints that obscene dances are being performed in such events. Due to this, there is a ban on dance and song programs during some temple festivals. 
  • In this case, there was a complaint that Kuravan was performing obscene dance under the name of Kurathi. There was also a demand to ban obscene dances called Kuravan Kurathi.
  • In this case, the Tamil Nadu government has issued an ordinance banning Kuravan and Kurathi games which are held in temple festivals in Tamil Nadu. In it, Kuravan said that he had taken action after learning that dancing and singing were being included in the Kuram festival and that it was being performed obscenely and insulting a certain community.
PM Modi inaugurates World's Longest Railway Platform - Karnataka
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated the world's longest train platform at Sri Siddharutha Swamiji Hoopalli station in Karnataka and dedicated it to the nation. According to a press release issued by the Prime Minister's Office, this 1,507 meter long platform has been built at a cost of around 20 crore rupees.
  • The Prime Minister's Office also said that this feat has been recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Bengaluru-Mysore Expressway in Karnataka
  • A 10-lane road has been constructed between Bengaluru-Mysore for a distance of 118 km. 8 thousand 480 crores have been spent for this. Bangalore to Mysuru can be reached in 75 minutes on this expressway. Prime Minister Modi dedicated this road to the nation today. 
  • Accordingly, he initiated development works worth Rs. 16 thousand including Bengaluru-Mysore Expressway. They said that through this road, you can go quickly from Bengaluru to cities like Kodagu, Ooty, Coimbatore.
Maritime Joint Exercise (MPX) with the French Navy
  • Indian Navy's indigenously built warship INS Sahyadri along with French Navy (FN) ships FS Dixmut, FS La Fayette and La Fayette class frigate participated in Maritime Joint Exercise (MBX) in the Arabian Sea on 10 March 2023.
  • In this exercise, various exercises were carried out including cross stationing at sea, climbing exercises. The exercise was aimed at ensuring a high level of cooperation between the two navies.
  • Equipped with sophisticated weapons and sensors, INS Sahyadri is capable of detecting and intercepting air and ground attacks. The ship is part of the Indian Navy's Eastern Squadron based in Visakhapatnam.
Joint Statement of the 18th India-Australia Ministerial Committee (JMC)
  • India's Minister of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Piyush Goyal, and Australia's Minister of Commerce and Tourism, Senator Hon Dan Farrell, met yesterday to discuss the next steps to further develop the bilateral economic relationship.
  • Ministers discussed implementation of Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA), development of India-Australia Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA) and further promotion of investment in both countries. Ministers also discussed engagement with G-20, Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) and World Trade Organization (WTO).
  • The Ministers highlighted the importance of energy transition as both countries work towards achieving zero carbon emissions. They also committed to further enhance economic, technological, trade and investment cooperation to achieve zero carbon emissions.
  • Minister Farrell reiterated Australia's strong support for India's G20 leadership. Ministers agreed that the G-20 should help the world set a path to strong, sustainable and inclusive growth, including by accelerating action to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
  • Ministers agreed that Australia and India are important trading partners. Bilateral trade between India and Australia crossed USD 31 billion in the last financial year. Both sides agreed that trade between the two countries has potential to significantly improve over the next five years.
