G20 summit begins in Guwahati, Assam
  • India assumed the presidency of the G20 organization on December 1. According to this, G20-related conferences will be held throughout the country for one year. The G20 Summit will be held in September.
  • In this context, Union Minister Sarvananda Sonowal inaugurated the 2nd G20 conference in Guwahati, Assam. 100 people including 95 foreign representatives from the G20 organization participated in this.
Memorandum of Understanding between Australia - Leather Industry Skills Confederation
  • The MoU was signed between the Australian Trade and Investment Commission and the Leather Industry Skills Association at a private hotel in Guindy, Chennai on Thursday.
  • Australian Trade and Investment Authority (Austrade) Trade Commissioner Leo Bremanis, Australian Deputy Ambassador to Chennai Sarah Kirlew, Leather Industry Council SAIL Chief Executive Officer Rajesh Rathinam and Leather Export Council Chairman Sanjay Leeka signed the agreement.
MoU with Engineers India to develop waste-to-power plants
  • The Union Finance Minister, Mrs. Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Budget 2023-2024 with seven priorities of Saptarishi to guide the era of Amrita. In the 'green growth' segment, 500 new waste-to-wealth plants have been set up under the Gopardhan scheme to promote circular economy. 
  • Of these, 200 are compressed biogas plants. These include 75 in urban areas and 300 community and cluster-based plants. Its total investment will be Rs.10,000 crore.
  • Green Growth' has in part signed an MoU with the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Engineers India.The MoU envisages implementation of the project to generate electricity from cities with a population of more than 10 lakhs. 
  • The MoU was signed by Mr. Manoj Joshi, Secretary, Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Ms. Vardika Shukla, Chairman and Managing Director, Engineers India, Ms. Rupa Mishra, Urban Clean India Mission of the Ministry, and Mr. RK Rathi, Managing Director, IIL.
The first meeting of the G20 Employment Working Group is underway in Jodhpur
  • Under the leadership of G20 India, the first Employment Working Group Meeting 2023 will be held in Jodhpur from February 2 to 4. Labor, employment and social issues have been emphasized in the discussion led by the Ministry of Labor and Employment.
  • A panel discussion was held today on identifying strategies for universal skills and competencies and establishing a framework for common skill categories. Members shared their views on key issues including global skills gaps.
  • G20 countries, guest countries, representatives of international and national organizations and other international and national level key experts participated in the discussion. Officials of central and state government agencies, representatives of industry and academia participated in the discussion.
  • The group emphasized the need for international dialogue and cooperation regarding mutual recognition and competence in capacity building and certification.
