• சர்வதேச தாய்மொழி தினம் 2024 / INTERNATIONAL MOTHER LANGUAGE DAY 2024: சர்வதேச தாய்மொழி தினம் என்பது மொழியியல் மற்றும் கலாச்சார பன்முகத்தன்மை மற்றும் பன்மொழித்தன்மையை மேம்படுத்துவதற்காக ஆண்டுதோறும் பிப்ரவரி 21 அன்று நடத்தப்படும் உலகளாவிய அனுசரிப்பு ஆகும். 
• இது முதன்முதலில் யுனெஸ்கோவால் 1999 இல் அறிவிக்கப்பட்டது மற்றும் 2000 முதல் ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும் கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது.

• சர்வதேச தாய்மொழி தினம் 2024 / INTERNATIONAL MOTHER LANGUAGE DAY 2024: வங்காளதேசத்தில் வங்காள மொழி இயக்கத்தின் நினைவாக இந்த நாள் நிறுவப்பட்டது, இது 1952 இல் நடந்தது, கிழக்கு பாகிஸ்தானின் (இப்போது வங்காளதேசம்) உர்து மொழியாக உருது திணிக்கப்பட்டதற்கு எதிரான போராட்டங்களின் போது மாணவர்கள் மற்றும் ஆர்வலர்கள் கொல்லப்பட்டனர்.

• சர்வதேச தாய்மொழி தினத்தை கொண்டாடுவது பங்களாதேஷின் முன்முயற்சியாகும். ஐநா பொதுச் சபை 2002 ஆம் ஆண்டு தீர்மானத்தில் நாள் பிரகடனத்தை வரவேற்றது.
• 16 மே 2007 அன்று ஐக்கிய நாடுகளின் பொதுச் சபை அதன் தீர்மானத்தில் A/RES/61/266 "உலக மக்களால் பயன்படுத்தப்படும் அனைத்து மொழிகளின் பாதுகாப்பு மற்றும் பாதுகாப்பை ஊக்குவிக்க" உறுப்பு நாடுகளுக்கு அழைப்பு விடுத்தது. 
• அதே தீர்மானத்தின் மூலம், பொதுச் சபை 2008 ஐ சர்வதேச மொழிகளின் ஆண்டாக அறிவித்தது, பன்முகத்தன்மை மற்றும் சர்வதேச புரிதலில் ஒற்றுமையை மேம்படுத்துவதற்காக, பன்மொழி மற்றும் பன்முக கலாச்சாரம் மற்றும் ஐக்கிய நாடுகளின் கல்வி, அறிவியல் மற்றும் கலாச்சார அமைப்பை இந்த ஆண்டிற்கான முன்னணி நிறுவனமாகப் பெயரிட்டது.

• சர்வதேச தாய்மொழி தினம் 2024 / INTERNATIONAL MOTHER LANGUAGE DAY 2024: சர்வதேச தாய்மொழி தினத்தின் குறிக்கோள், உலகின் ஏறத்தாழ 7,000 மொழிகளைக் கொண்டாடுவதும் பாதுகாப்பதும் மற்றும் மக்கள் தங்கள் தாய்மொழி அல்லது முதல் மொழியைப் பயன்படுத்த ஊக்குவிப்பதும் ஆகும். 
• மொழியியல் பன்முகத்தன்மையின் முக்கியத்துவத்தையும், அழிந்துவரும் மொழிகளைப் பாதுகாப்பதையும் ஊக்குவிப்பதையும் இந்த நாள் நோக்கமாகக் கொண்டுள்ளது.

• சர்வதேச தாய்மொழி தினம் 2024 / INTERNATIONAL MOTHER LANGUAGE DAY 2024: ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும் சர்வதேச தாய்மொழி தினத்திற்காக ஐக்கிய நாடுகள் சபை ஒரு கருப்பொருளைத் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கிறது.

• சர்வதேச தாய்மொழி தினம் 2024 / INTERNATIONAL MOTHER LANGUAGE DAY 2024: சர்வதேச தாய்மொழி தினம் 2024 இன் கருப்பொருள் 'பல்மொழிக் கல்வி என்பது தலைமுறைகளுக்கு இடையேயான கற்றலின் தூண்' என்பதாகும்.

• சர்வதேச தாய்மொழி தினம் 2024 / INTERNATIONAL MOTHER LANGUAGE DAY 2024: சர்வதேச தாய்மொழி தினத்தின் 24வது பதிப்பு, ‘பன்மொழிக் கல்வி - கல்வியை மாற்றியமைப்பதற்கான அவசியம்’ என்ற கருப்பொருளில் கவனம் செலுத்துகிறது.
• தாய்மொழியின் அடிப்படையிலான பன்மொழிக் கல்வியானது ஆதிக்கம் செலுத்தாத மொழிகள், சிறுபான்மையினரின் மொழிகள் மற்றும் பழங்குடியின மொழிகள் பேசும் மக்கள்தொகைக் குழுக்களுக்கான அணுகலையும் உள்ளடக்குவதையும் எளிதாக்குகிறது.

• INTERNATIONAL MOTHER LANGUAGE DAY 2024: International Mother Language Day is a global observance held annually on February 21st to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism. It was first announced by UNESCO in 1999 and has been celebrated every year since 2000.
• The day was established in honor of the Bengali language movement in Bangladesh, which took place in 1952, where students and activists were killed during protests against the imposition of Urdu as the official language of East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). 
• The movement eventually led to the recognition of Bengali as an official language of Bangladesh and inspired other language-based movements around the world.

GOAL

• INTERNATIONAL MOTHER LANGUAGE DAY 2024: The goal of International Mother Language Day is to celebrate and preserve the world's approximately 7,000 languages and encourage people to use their mother tongue or first language. 
• The day also aims to promote the importance of linguistic diversity and the preservation of endangered languages.

History

• INTERNATIONAL MOTHER LANGUAGE DAY 2024: International Mother Language Day was proclaimed by the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in November 1999. 
• The idea to celebrate International Mother Language Day was the initiative of Bangladesh. The UN General Assembly welcomed the proclamation of the day in its resolution of 2002.
• On 16 May 2007 the United Nations General Assembly in its resolution A/RES/61/266 called upon Member States "to promote the preservation and protection of all languages used by peoples of the world". 
• By the same resolution, the General Assembly proclaimed 2008 as the International Year of Languages, to promote unity in diversity and international understanding, through multilingualism and multiculturalism and named the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization to serve as the lead agency for the Year.
• Today there is growing awareness that languages play a vital role in development, in ensuring cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue, but also in strengthening co-operation and attaining quality education for all, in building inclusive knowledge societies and preserving cultural heritage, and in mobilizing political will for applying the benefits of science and technology to sustainable development.

INTERNATIONAL MOTHER LANGUAGE DAY THEME 

• INTERNATIONAL MOTHER LANGUAGE DAY 2024: Each year, the United Nations chooses a theme for International Mother Language Day. Past themes have included "Indigenous languages matter for development, peacebuilding and reconciliation," "Inclusion in and through education: Language counts," and "Towards sustainable futures through multilingual education." The day is celebrated with cultural events, language-based activities, and seminars and conferences on linguistic and cultural diversity.
• The idea to celebrate International Mother Language Day was the initiative of Bangladesh. It was approved at the 1999 UNESCO General Conference and has been observed throughout the world since 2000.
• UNESCO believes in the importance of cultural and linguistic diversity for sustainable societies. It is within its mandate for peace that it works to preserve the differences in cultures and languages that foster tolerance and respect for others.  
• Multilingual and multicultural societies exist through their languages which transmit and preserve traditional knowledge and cultures in a sustainable way. Linguistic diversity is increasingly threatened as more and more languages disappear.
• Globally 40 per cent of the population does not have access to an education in a language they speak or understand. Nevertheless, progress is being made in multilingual education with growing understanding of its importance, particularly in early schooling, and more commitment to its development in public life.

• INTERNATIONAL MOTHER LANGUAGE DAY 2024: International Mother Language Day 2024 Theme is 'Multilingual Education is a Pillar of Intergenerational Learning'. This theme emphasises the vital role of languages in fostering inclusive education and preserving indigenous languages.

International Mother Language Day 2023 Theme

• INTERNATIONAL MOTHER LANGUAGE DAY 2024: The 24th edition of International Mother Language Day will focus on the theme ‘multilingual education - a necessity to transform education’.
• Multilingual education based on mother-tongue facilitates access to and inclusion in learning for population groups that speak non-dominant languages, languages of minority groups and indigenous languages. 
• The event organized by UNESCO on 21 February will explore and debate on the potential of multilingualism to transform education from a lifelong learning perspective and in different contexts.
