• அறிவியலில் பெண்கள் மற்றும் சிறுமிகளுக்கான சர்வதேச தினம் 2024 / INTERNATIONAL DAY OF WOMEN & GIRLS IN SCIENCE 2024: அறிவியலில் பெண்கள் மற்றும் சிறுமிகளுக்கான சர்வதேச தினம் (International Day of Women and Girls in Science) ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும் பிப்ரவரி 11-ஆம் தேதி (இன்று) அனுசரிக்கப்பட்டு வருகிறது. 
• சர்வதேச பெண்கள் மற்றும் சிறுமிகளுக்கான அறிவியல் தினம் ஐக்கிய நாடுகளின் பொது சபையால் அறிவிக்கப்பட்டது. இந்த நாள் அறிவியல் மற்றும் தொழில்நுட்பத் துறையில் முக்கிய பங்கு வகிக்கும் பெண்களை மற்றும் சிறுமிகளை அங்கீகரிக்கும் வகையில் கொண்டாடப்பட்டு வருகிறது.
• ஒரு நாடு தனது வளர்ச்சி இலக்குகளை அடைவதற்கு பாலின சமத்துவமும், அறிவியலும் முக்கியமானவை. எனவே உலக சமூகம் பெண்கள் மற்றும் சிறுமிகளை அறிவியலில் ஈடுபடுத்த பல முயற்சிகளை மேற்கொண்டு வருகிறது. 
• ஆனாலும் அவர்கள் இந்த துறையில் முழுமையாக பங்கேற்பதில் சுணக்கம் காணப்பட்டு வருகிறது. அதாவது இன்னும் பெண்கள் மற்றும் சிறுமிகள் அறிவியலில் முழுமையாக பங்கேற்பதில் இருந்து தொடர்ந்து விலக்கப்படுகிறார்கள்.

முக்கியத்துவம்

• அறிவியலில் பெண்கள் மற்றும் சிறுமிகளுக்கான சர்வதேச தினம் 2024 / INTERNATIONAL DAY OF WOMEN & GIRLS IN SCIENCE 2024: ஐக்கிய நாடுகள் சபையின் முன்னுரிமையாக பாலின சமத்துவம் உள்ளது. இலக்கை முழுமையாக அடைவதற்கும், பெண்கள் மற்றும் சிறுமிகள் அறிவியல் துறைகளில் பங்கேற்பதற்கான அணுகலை வழங்குவதற்கும், ஐக்கிய நாடுகள் பொது சபை பிப்ரவரி 11-ஆம் தேதியை அறிவியலில் சர்வதேச பெண்கள் மற்றும் சிறுமிகளுக்கான தினமாக கடந்த 2015-ஆம் ஆண்டில்அர்ப்பணித்தது.

• உயர்கல்வியில் பெண்களின் பங்களிப்பை தொடர்ந்து அதிகரித்து வருவதன் மூலம் பெண்கள் முன்னேற்றம் அடைந்திருந்தாலும், அறிவியல் மற்றும் தொழில்நுட்பத் துறையில் பெண்களின் முன்னேற்றம் குறைவாகவே இருக்கிறது.

• INTERNATIONAL DAY OF WOMEN & GIRLS IN SCIENCE 2024: International Day of Women and Girls in Science is observed every year on February 11 (today). The International Day of Women and Girls in Science is declared by the United Nations General Assembly. 
• The day is celebrated to recognize women and girls who are playing important roles in the field of science and technology. Gender equality and science are critical for a country to achieve its development goals.
• So the global community is making many efforts to involve women and girls in science. However, their full participation in this sector is still lacking. This means that women and girls continue to be excluded from full participation in science.

History and Significance of International Day for Women and Girls in Science

• INTERNATIONAL DAY OF WOMEN & GIRLS IN SCIENCE 2024: Gender equality is a priority of the United Nations. In 2015, the United Nations General Assembly designated February 11 as the International Day of Women and Girls in Science to fully achieve the goal and provide women and girls with access to participation in the fields of science. 
• Since then, this international day has been celebrated on February 11 every year. Likewise, many fields around the world, including science, technology, engineering and mathematics, have seen a significant gender gap for decades. A
• lthough women have made progress with the continued increase in their participation in higher education, women's progress in the field of science and technology has been limited. So by involving women in these sectors, the UN has set a target of achieving sustainable development by 2030.

History

• INTERNATIONAL DAY OF WOMEN & GIRLS IN SCIENCE 2024: In December 2015, the United Nations adopted a resolution to celebrate February 11 as the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. In 2016 is the first time it was celebrated. 
• The idea behind this day is to ensure equal participation and involvement of women and girls in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

• The 8th International Day of Women and Girls in Science Assembly is organized, for the first time, around a number of fictitious communities that have their main impact on the SDGs reviewed in depth in 2023: SDG 6 (clean water and sanitation), SDG 7 (affordable and clean energy), SDG 9 (industry, innovation, and infrastructure), SDG 11 (sustainable cities and communities). 
• Key stakeholders of these communities will be brought together for a substantive discussion on the means of implementation (SDG17): how to create the enabling environment for accelerated implementation of SDGS 7, 9 and 11, while keeping a continuous focus on SDG6, following up on the in-depth water discussions of the 7th IDWGIS of 2022.
