PM Modi consults economists at NITI Aayog

  • The theme of the consultation was 'India's Growth and Resilience Amidst Global Trouble'. Renowned economists Shankar Acharya, Ashok Gulati, Shamika Ravi and others participated in it.
  • Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Niti Aayog Vice Chairman Suman Peri and members and senior officials were also present.
Extension of breakfast scheme to students of classes 1 to 5 in all government schools - Principal's announcement
  • The Chief Minister's Breakfast Program 2022 was launched on 15th September in Madurai. In the first phase, 1.14 lakh students studying in 1,545 government schools are being served breakfast in this pilot scheme for primary school children from classes 1 to 5.
  • Due to this, the number of students coming to schools has increased. Based on this, the Tamil Nadu government has decided to expand this program in 2023-2024 and gradually provide breakfast to children studying in classes 1 to 5 in all government schools in the state.
Himachal cabinet approves old pension scheme
  • The Congress party won the assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh and formed the government. Sukhwinder Singh took over as Chief Minister.
  • Earlier during the Assembly election campaign, the Congress had promised to re-implement the old pension system in the state.
  • In this case, the first cabinet meeting of the Himachal government was held yesterday. In this meeting presided over by Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukku, the cabinet approved the re-implementation of the old pension scheme.
Amendment to TNPSC Act Tamil Nadu to make proficiency in Tamil mandatory for government jobs - Assembly passes bill
  • In the bill filed by the Minister of Finance and Human Resource Management Palanivel Thiagarajan in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, it has been stated that: For recruitment from December 1, 2021, for any post through direct recruitment, the applicant must have scored not less than 40 percent in the Tamil language paper in the examination conducted for recruitment.
  • The syllabus and content of the Tamil language papers shall be prescribed by the Government from time to time. Any action taken during the period commencing on 1st December 2021 and ending on the date of publication of this Act in the Tamil Nadu Gazette shall be deemed to have been taken in compliance with the Act as if this Act were in force.
  • According to Section 21 of the Tamil Nadu Government Servants (Conditions) Act, 2016, no person shall be eligible for appointment to any post through direct recruitment unless he has adequate knowledge of the official language of the State i.e. Tamil.
  • Candidates who do not have adequate knowledge of Tamil at the time of application for recruitment, if they are qualified and appointed, they must apply for recruitment subject to the condition of passing the second class language test in Tamil within a period of 2 years from the date of appointment. Otherwise they should be dismissed.
  • In order to ensure 100 percent recruitment of Tamil youth in all state government departments and state public sector organizations in the state, mandatory Tamil language paper has been introduced in all competitive examinations for direct recruitment conducted by recruitment agencies, and accordingly orders dated December 1, 2021 have been issued by the Human Resource Development Department.
  • For this, the government has decided to bring an amendment in the Tamil Nadu Government Employees Act, 2016. This is stated in the bill. Following this the Bill was passed with the full support of the members.
Extension of 100% Tax Exemption for Electric Vehicles - Tamil Nadu Promulgation of Ordinance
  • The Government of Tamil Nadu had already issued an order granting 100 percent tax exemption till 31.12.2022 to all battery operated electric vehicles, both transport and non-transport vehicles.
  • In this case, according to the Tamil Nadu Electric Vehicle Policy 2019, passengers, vehicle manufacturers have requested to extend the 100 percent tax exemption for battery-powered electric vehicles from January 1, 2023 to December 31, 2026.
  • Presently, the Tamil Nadu government has agreed to extend the 100 percent tax exemption for battery-powered electric vehicles from 1.1.2023 to 31.12.2025. This order does not require the approval of the finance department.
  • All battery vehicles are exempt from tax in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 20 of the Tamil Nadu Motor Vehicles Taxation Act, 1974.

  • Pongal, the main festival of Tamils, will be celebrated on Sunday. On this occasion, Chief Minister Mukherjee Stalin inaugurated the Chennai Sangham program today at Island.
  • Tamil Nadu Government's Department of Arts and Culture and Department of Tourism jointly organizes a program called Chennai Sangam at Aiil Thidal. So from today till January 17th this program will be held in 16 places like parks and playgrounds in various places in Chennai.
India-UAE Green Hydrogen Project Agreement Signed
  • India - UAE sign agreement for green hydrogen development and undersea cable connection. Union Minister for Power and Renewable Energy RK Singh and UAE Minister for Energy and Infrastructure Suhail Al Mazrouei signed the agreement.
  • RK Singh, who is on a three-day trip to Abu Dhabi, met with the country's Minister Suhail Al Mazrouei, and both of them talked about the various opportunities between the two countries in the field of energy and renewable energy.
MV Ganga Vilas Luxury Ship - Flagged off by Prime Minister Modi
  • Prime Minister Modi on Friday (Jan.13) flagged off the MV Ganga Vilas, the world's longest waterway cruise ship, through video. Along with this, he also laid the foundation stone for various inland waterway projects worth Rs.1000 crore.
  • MV Ganga Vilas, the first-ever made-in-India luxury cruise ship, started its journey from Varanasi, crossed 5 states via Bangladesh and covered 3,200 km in 51 days to reach the port of Dibrugarh in Assam.
