Chithiveni Rabuka is the new Prime Minister of Fiji

  • Chithiveni Rabuka has been elected as the new Prime Minister of Fiji. This brings to an end the reign of Frank Bainimarama for the last 16 years.
  • With 28 votes in the parliamentary vote, Chithiveni Rabuka will become Fiji's next Prime Minister, ending Bainimarama's rule with 27 votes. Between 1992 and 1999, Chithiveni Rabuka was already Prime Minister.
Pujara became the 7th Indian player to cross 7,000 runs, a new record
  • The 2nd and final Test match between India and Bangladesh is being played at Mirpur. In this case, when Pujara scored his 12th run, he overtook Bradman among the players who crossed 7000 runs in the Test arena.

A world record by planting 6 lakh saplings in 4 hours in 117 acres of land in Otanchatra
  • The 117 acres of land belonging to the Thiruvenkatanath Perumal Temple under the control of the Charities Department at Udayakottai under the Othanchatram constituency had grown in the 117-acre land.
  • Following this, the place was cleared and saplings were planted. Also, it was decided to plant 6 lakh saplings in 4 hours as a world record attempt. 16,500 people including school and college students and volunteers planted more than 6 lakh saplings at the same time.
  • Tamil Nadu Sports Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin planted 2 saplings in the herb park which has been set up in Kurungadu area. Subsequently, Ministers I. Periyasamy, Ar. Chakrapani, Hon. Mathivendan also planted saplings.
  • Collector S.Visagan presided over the ceremony. Ravi Balbaki and Naura, Executive Officers of America's Elite World Record Company, presented the medal and certificate to Minister Udayanidhi Stalin for planting 6 lakh saplings.
  • Similarly, the officials from the Asian Records Academy, Indian Records Academy, Tamilan Book Op Records and other international achievement recognition organizations also presented the certificates.
Letter of Approval from Indian Railways to Siemens India for Manufacturing and Maintenance of 9000 Horsepower Electric Freight Locomotives
  • Indian Railways has issued a letter of approval to Siemens India for the manufacture and maintenance of 9000 horsepower electric freight locomotives. 1200 electric freight locomotives of maximum horsepower (9000 horse power) will be produced for 11 years at the railway factory in Tahota.
  • The company will manufacture and maintain these engines for 35 years. The contract valuation for this (excluding taxes and price variation) is Rs. 26,000 crore (about US$ 3.2 billion).
  • The agreement will be signed with Siemens India within 30 days of the letter of approval. These engines will be delivered over the next two years. Tahota division is built to manufacture these.
  • For maintenance of these locomotives, Siemens India will undertake the maintenance work for 35 years using the manpower of the Railways with duty bells at Visakhapatnam, Raipur, Kharakpur and Pune.
  • It is an initiative based project called Manufacture in India. The project will lead to the development of the Tahota area and create employment opportunities.
