• சர்வதேச ஊழல் எதிர்ப்பு தினம் (IACD) ஊழல் எதிர்ப்பு மற்றும் அமைதி, பாதுகாப்பு மற்றும் வளர்ச்சி ஆகியவற்றுக்கு இடையேயான முக்கியமான தொடர்பை முன்னிலைப்படுத்த முயல்கிறது. 
• இந்தக் குற்றத்தைச் சமாளிப்பது ஒவ்வொருவரின் உரிமையும் பொறுப்பும் என்பதும், ஒவ்வொரு நபர் மற்றும் நிறுவனங்களின் ஒத்துழைப்பு மற்றும் ஈடுபாட்டின் மூலம் மட்டுமே இந்தக் குற்றத்தின் எதிர்மறையான தாக்கத்தை நாம் சமாளிக்க முடியும் என்ற கருத்து அதன் மையத்தில் உள்ளது. 
• ஊழலுக்கு எதிராக உலகை ஒன்றிணைப்பதில் மாநிலங்கள், அரசு அதிகாரிகள், அரசு ஊழியர்கள், சட்ட அமலாக்க அதிகாரிகள், ஊடக பிரதிநிதிகள், தனியார் துறை, சிவில் சமூகம், கல்வியாளர்கள், பொதுமக்கள் மற்றும் இளைஞர்கள் அனைவருக்கும் பங்கு உண்டு.
• ஊழலுக்கு எதிரான ஐ.நா மாநாட்டின் (UNCAC) இருபதாம் ஆண்டு நிறைவைக் குறிக்கும் முயற்சிகளின் தொடக்கத்தையும் 2022 IACD குறிக்கிறது. 
• அடுத்த ஆண்டில், IACD 2023 உடன் முடிவடையும், மாநாட்டின் கூட்டு உந்துதலுக்கு நன்றி செலுத்தும் ஒரு சிறந்த உலகத்தைப் பற்றி நாம் சிந்திப்போம், முக்கியமாக, வரவிருக்கும் ஆண்டுகளில் இது உண்மையிலேயே வலுவான பொறிமுறையாக இருப்பதை உறுதிசெய்ய என்ன இடைவெளிகள் உள்ளன.

• ஊழல் என்பது அனைத்து நாடுகளையும் பாதிக்கும் ஒரு சிக்கலான சமூக, அரசியல் மற்றும் பொருளாதார நிகழ்வு ஆகும். ஊழல் ஜனநாயக நிறுவனங்களை குறைமதிப்பிற்கு உட்படுத்துகிறது, பொருளாதார வளர்ச்சியை குறைக்கிறது மற்றும் அரசாங்க உறுதியற்ற தன்மைக்கு பங்களிக்கிறது.
• தேர்தல் நடைமுறைகளை சிதைத்து, சட்டத்தின் ஆட்சியை சீர்குலைப்பதன் மூலமும், அதிகாரத்துவ புதைகுழிகளை உருவாக்குவதன் மூலமும் ஊழல் ஜனநாயக நிறுவனங்களின் அடித்தளத்தை தாக்குகிறது. 
• அந்நிய நேரடி முதலீடு ஊக்கமளிக்கப்படாததாலும், நாட்டில் உள்ள சிறு வணிகங்கள் ஊழலால் தேவைப்படும் "தொடக்கச் செலவுகளை" சமாளிக்க முடியாமல் போவதாலும் பொருளாதார வளர்ச்சி தடைபடுகிறது.
• 31 அக்டோபர் 2003 அன்று, பொதுச் சபை ஊழலுக்கு எதிரான ஐக்கிய நாடுகளின் மாநாட்டை ஏற்றுக்கொண்டது மற்றும் பொதுச் செயலாளரிடம் ஐக்கிய நாடுகளின் போதைப்பொருள் மற்றும் குற்றங்களுக்கான அலுவலகத்தை (UNODC) மாநிலக் கட்சிகளின் மாநாட்டின் செயலகமாக நியமிக்குமாறு கோரியது (தீர்மானம் 58/4). அப்போதிருந்து, 188 கட்சிகள் மாநாட்டின் ஊழல் எதிர்ப்புக் கடமைகளுக்கு உறுதியளித்துள்ளன,

• The 2022 IACD also marks the start of efforts to mark the twentieth anniversary of the UN Convention against Corruption (UNCAC). Over the next year, culminating with IACD 2023, we will be reflecting on a world made better thanks to the collective push afforded by the Convention and, crucially, what gaps remain to ensure this is a truly strong mechanism for the years ahead.

Background

• Corruption is a complex social, political and economic phenomenon that affects all countries. Corruption undermines democratic institutions, slows economic development and contributes to governmental instability.
• Corruption attacks the foundation of democratic institutions by distorting electoral processes, perverting the rule of law and creating bureaucratic quagmires whose only reason for existing is the soliciting of bribes. 
• Economic development is stunted because foreign direct investment is discouraged and small businesses within the country often find it impossible to overcome the "start-up costs" required because of corruption.
• On 31 October 2003, the General Assembly adopted the United Nations Convention against Corruption and requested that the Secretary-General designate the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) as secretariat for the Convention’s Conference of States Parties (resolution 58/4). 
• Since then, 188 parties have committed to the Convention’s anti-corruption obligations, showing near-universal recognition of the importance of good governance, accountability, and political commitment.
• The Assembly also designated 9 December as International Anti-Corruption Day, to raise awareness of corruption and of the role of the Convention in combating and preventing it. The Convention entered into force in December 2005.
• As we move towards the twentieth anniversary of UNCAC in October 2023, this Convention and the values it promotes are more important than ever which requires everyone to join efforts to tackle this crime. 
• The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and Secretariat for the Convention's Conference of States Parties, are at the forefront of ensuring a world #UnitedAgainstCorruption.
