Union government approval for e-sports

  • President Draupadi Murmu exercised the powers conferred by Article 77 of the Constitution of India to give official recognition to electronic sports known as e-sports.
  • Union government's sports department and electronics and technology department have been directed to introduce e-sports in competitive sports. It is noteworthy that till now e-sports was considered as an online game.
  • But eSports companies used to say that eSports is a competitive sport where athletes use their physical and mental abilities to participate in a virtual, electronic environment. The International Olympic Association is also paying serious attention to popularizing eSports. 
India and Asian Development Bank sign Rs 1,040 crore loan agreement to improve urban services in Tamil Nadu
  • The Central Government and the Asian Development Bank have signed a Rs 1,040 crore loan agreement to develop sewage collection and treatment, sewage disposal and drinking water supply systems in three cities in Tamil Nadu to address climate change.
  • The third tranche loan agreement for the Tamil Nadu Urban Investment Project was signed by Rajith Kumar Mishra, Additional Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, on behalf of India, and Ho Yoon Yong, Officer-in-Charge of the Bank's India Office, on behalf of the Asian Development Bank.
  • In 2018, the Asian Development Bank approved a multi-package financing facility worth US$ 500 million for the infrastructure of drinking water supply and sewage disposal in 10 industrially important cities in Tamil Nadu.
  • This agreement was signed as the third and last package. The cities of Coimbatore, Madurai and Tuticorin are featured in this collection. With this financial assistance, 59 km of pumping and lifting stations along with sewage collection pipes will be constructed in Coimbatore.
  • A distance of 14 kilometers of sewage pipelines will be laid to carry the sewage to the disposal site. Rainwater drainage systems will be set up in Tuticorin to deal with climate change.
  • This will help with the project to lay 813 km of pipelines to supply piped water to 1,63,958 households in 115 new metered residential areas to reduce non-revenue drinking water supply.
  • Training will be given to all women SHGs in Coimbatore and Madurai to explain the benefits of sewage collection system, water conservation, hygiene, sanitation and hygiene and cleanliness.
