• செயற்கைக்கோள் தரவுகளின் அடிப்படையில் கணிக்கப்பட்டுள்ள தகவல்களைக் கொண்ட இந்த அறிக்கை, எகிப்து நடைபெற்று வரும் COP27 என்ற காலநிலை மாற்றம் தொடர்பான உச்சிமாநாட்டில் விவாதிக்கப்படவுள்ளது. 
• ஐக்கிய நாடுகள் கல்வி, அறிவியல் மற்றும் பண்பாட்டு அமைப்பான யுனெஸ்கோ தனது அறிக்கையில், காலநிலை மாற்றம் காரணமாக ஆஃப்ரிக்காவில் எஞ்சியிருக்கும் கடைசி பனிப்பாறைகள் உள்பட உலகில் உள்ள பனிப்பாறைகள் 2050ஆம் ஆண்டுக்குள் தவிர்க்க முடியாதபடி உருகி விடும் என்று கூறியிருக்கிறது. 
• ஐநாவின் உலக பாரம்பரிய இடங்களில் மூன்றில் ஒரு மடங்கு இடம் பெற்றுள்ள பனிப்பாறைகள் 30 ஆண்டுகளுக்குள் உருகிவிடும் என்றும் யுனெஸ்கோ அதன் அறிக்கையில் தெரிவித்திருக்கிறது. 
• கிளிமஞ்சாரோ சிகரத்தின் கடைசி பனிப்பாறைகள், ஆல்ப்ஸ், அமெரிக்காவின் யோசெமிட்டி தேசிய பூங்காவில் உள்ள பனிப்பாறைகள் போல உருகி மறைந்து விடும். 
• பனிப்பாறைகள் காணமல் போவது, பின்னடைவு என்பது புவி வெப்பமடைவதற்கான மிக தீவிரமான சாட்சியங்களில் ஒன்றாகும் என அறிக்கை குறிப்பிடுகிறது.
• மூன்றில் இரண்டு மடங்கு ஐநா உலக பாரம்பர்ய இடங்களில் உள்ள பனிப்பாறைகள் பாதுகாக்கப்பட வேண்டும். ஆனால், உலகம் வெப்பமடைவதை 1.5 சென்டிகிரேட் ஆக வரம்புக்கு உட்படுத்தினால் மட்டுமே அது சாத்தியம் என அறிக்கையின் எழுத்தாளர்கள் சொல்கின்றனர்.

• இந்த பனிப்பாறைகள் ஒவ்வோர் ஆண்டும் 58 பில்லியன் ஐஸ்கட்டிகளை இழந்தன. இது பிரான்ஸ், ஸ்பெயின் இரு நாடுகளும் சேர்ந்து ஆண்டு முழுவதும் உபயோகிக்கும் தண்ணீர் அளவுக்கு சமமானதாகும்.

• The report, which contains predictions based on satellite data, will be discussed at the COP27 climate change summit in Egypt. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) said in its report that the world's glaciers, including the last remaining ones in Africa, will inevitably melt by 2050 due to climate change.
• A third of the glaciers that make up the UN's World Heritage Sites will melt within 30 years, UNESCO said in its report. The last glaciers of Mount Kilimanjaro, the Alps, will melt and disappear like the glaciers in Yosemite National Park, USA.
• The report notes that the disappearance and retreat of glaciers is one of the most compelling evidences of global warming. Two-thirds of glaciers in UN World Heritage Sites should be protected. But that's only possible if global warming is limited to 1.5C, the report's authors say.
• But another UN report released last week said the world currently has no credible means of achieving this goal.

• Between 2000 and 2020, global sea levels are expected to rise by 4.5 percent due to the melting of ice caps at World Heritage sites.
• These glaciers lost 58 billion ice cubes each year. This is equivalent to the amount of water that France and Spain together use throughout the year.
