Marvel at Giant Telescope, Night Sky Sanctuary to Attract Tourists - Union Govt Project in Ladakh

  • The Union Government is making many efforts to promote tourism in the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, which are rich in natural beauty.  It has built the world's highest railway line, long mountain tunnel, beautiful long national highways, etc. and is attracting people internationally. 
  • Another aspect of this is that the Union Government has decided to set up a 'Night Sky Sanctuary' in the Union Territory of Ladakh. This new 'night sky sanctuary' is being set up in Hanle as part of the Changthang Wildlife Sanctuary in Ladakh.
  • It will help in boosting astro tourism in India. Large optical, ultraviolet and gamma ray telescopes will be set up here to witness the wonders happening in the sky. This is the first time such an attempt is being made by the Union Department of Science and Technology. The sanctuary will be completed and commissioned in the next 3 months.
India to surpass Germany, Japan in 2029 - SBI prediction
  • If the current economic growth continues, India will overtake Germany in 2027 and Japan in 2029 to become the world's 3rd largest economy, SBI Economic Research Group predicts. India was the 10th largest economy in the world in 2014. Since then, it has now overtaken Britain as the 5th largest economy.
  • An economic report by a team led by SBI Chief Economic Adviser Sowmya Gandhi Ghosh said that an improvement of 7 places since 2014 would be a significant achievement. 
  • In the first quarter of the financial year 2022-23, India's gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 13.5 percent. If this trend continues, India will be the fastest growing economy in the current financial year.
Can prisoners be released without Governor's consent? - Chief Justice U.U. Lalit convened the constitutional session
  • Chief Justice U.U. Lalit set up a constitutional bench headed by Justice Indira Banerjee to discuss whether it is possible for state governments to pardon and pre-release prisoners without submitting records to the Governor under Article 161 of the Constitution.
  • Judges M.M. Sundarresh, Suriyakanthi, Hemant Gupta, Sudhanshu Dhulia are featured in this session.
